THIS IS SO TRUE!

Even when the Supernatural writers add well developed female characters, all the fans HATE them. Seriously, the fact that so many fans think fem!Castiel would be accepted is the worst kind of hypocrisy.

And seriously, most of the misogyny in the Supernatural fandom is committed by female fans. What the heck, girls?

I considered myself a part of this fandom awhile back, but I got so weary of all the fans lamenting the misogyny in the show while being misogynistic themselves.

When you hate all the female characters (they're just not interesting, they're so whiny, I'm so glad they got rid of her) AND the female actors who portray them (Oh, Jared is just marrying her as a beard; she's not his type with her icky vagina) AND you never write stories about any of the female characters, only Sam and Dean, (and turning the Winchesters into girls does not count) AND I go to your journal and you have zero icons of female characters in your 200 userpics--YOU NEED TO SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT THE SHOW BEING MISOGYNISTIC OMG.

Pretty sure that the fans making those kinds of comments aren't the ones who say the show's misogynistic. Or, maybe some people say that, but it's NOT everyone. Period, the end.

I'm not saying the show doesn't have its issues, in terms of portraying gender, race, etc. But there are plenty of fans who DO like the women and don't like it when they get killed off. And I am so fucking sick of blanket generalizations being made about the fandom like this.

Several years ago in the fandom, this was pretty pervasive in my corner of the fandom.

And yes. Those were the same fans. In my corner of the fandom.

Fandom is pretty big. I don't know what people were doing in your corner four years ago.

I wasn't in this fandom four years ago, so I really couldn't tell you. What I do know is that now, in my "corner," I don't see that. What I do see is a lot of people bitching about how all SPN fans are misogynistic and crazy and that's just...not true, from what I've seen.

I've heard people say that things have changed in recent years, though? So who knows.

Most of this fandom is filled with rampant hypocrisy and horrible attitudes.

If you didn't like Charlie, you were labeled homophobic and misogynist.
If you don't ship "Destiel" or Wincest you are labeled homophobic.
If you shipped Dean/Jo or hell even just liked Jo, you were pandering to the "homophobic" showrunners who don't want to make Dean/Sam or Dean/Castiel cannon.

However,

It's super funny and SQUUEEEEE-ful when there is a video from a con or outtake where the actors act like the offensive stereotypical effeminate gay person.

There is a "thank god they are gone" reaction when female characters like Jess, Anna, Lisa or Ruby get killed (or mind wiped), because they had sexual connections to the leads. I also noticed that the few female character that were liked were the ones that didn't have sexual tension/attraction to the leads.


The truth is if Castiel was a female, she would be hated hardcore and dead within 3 episodes. I'd even go further to say that people would still be wanking over how horrible Castiel was. "Destiel" wouldn't exist or even be an issue. And if Destiel was made canon everyone would be crying DNW!!!!!
