It's been ages since I wrote fic (oh, those crappy anime days), but it just wasn't the same.

Don't get me wrong! The fact that there were people reading my stories and liking them enough to add them to their favorites or story alerts was cool, and I appreciated every single fave/alert, but actual reviews? And reviews that went beyond a "I loved it, please write more!"? Those were real gems.

I never (and definitely won't start if I start writing fic again) complained about them, though. That's just bad form and a guarantee to lose readers.

Not to mention that I've been on the other side. Sometimes you just don't know what to say in response to a good story but still liked it. It happens.

All of this, pretty much. I'm not going to deny I'd prefer a review but I still like getting faves.

+1.
This is pretty much what I think. Favorites are nice, but I still have a preference for reviews. Although , even if it is hard to say something nice on occasion, I try to say something, even if it's just "I liked that line".
But, complaining about it on your profile or your stories? Oh no no no, that's where I think it would be wrong. That is why I prefer to let out steam when I need to in places like this and not with your audience (a concept a lot of people can't seem to grasp, because apparently, you're not suppose to be able to complain once in a while, ever)

Yeah, it's not healthy to bottle all those little frustrations. Over time, they pile-up, and then that's when the epic blow-ups happen.

That's also why you should be careful about where you vent. You never know if even the people in your f-list might decide to let something juicy slip... Anonymous communities or very, very trusted or not in fandom real life friends is the way to go. c:
