Wooooow, you're so evolved, longtime-fandom-nonnie. So evolved and condescending. I've also been in fandom since the 90's, and I VERY much value reviews/comments because they give me the opportunity to interact with the reader. I know well that the number of comments received on a story don't accurately reflect how good it is; they're more a reflection of how much of emotional impact it had. Everybody's failed to comment on stories they've liked but don't kid yourself that it's anything other than failure.

I never said anything about not appreciating a review.

"Everybody's failed to comment on stories they've liked but don't kid yourself that it's anything other than failure."

You think it's failure of the reader's part that they didn't review... okay. But imo I would have better examples of failure, and that would be people's failure toward reading comprehension.

I come to not really care about reviews, and for that matter about getting them

That sounds to me like you don't value reviews, which is what I said--"value," not "appreciate." So, perhaps reading comprehension is indeed a lost art.

You think it's failure of the reader's part that they didn't review... okay.

If somebody enjoys a story and doesn't comment, I do see that as a failure. Not a HUGE failure, but a failure. I apply that to myself as much as anybody else. I failed a lot in that way in the past, but not anymore.

No, that just means that I don't depend on getting reviews or force myself into submitting a review every time I read a fanfiction. That does not mean that I don't appreciate or "value" the review - I just don't depend on them.

Forgive me for using a synonym of value -- the difference between the two is sooo great. And as for the reading comprehension being of a lost art I guess that would depend upon the day you are having, I guess.

Again, you think it's failure of the reader's part that they didn't review... okay. But that is your own decision and not all people are subject to that ideal nor will they feel its a failure on their part. But I must add, when you enjoy a publish book do you write the author for each book you enjoyed?
