The problem with SPN is not misogyny, the problem is that it is a slash fandom.

The show started out with a narrow focus on two good-looking male characters and almost instantly had slashfic being written. As a result, the fandom had a very narrow focus on the slash.

Now admittedly, what others have said about the show writers not handling female characters well is also true, and that just added to the narrow slash focus - fail to give the fans good female characters and they will fail to give much of a care. (Same with failing to utilise good female characters.)

I am slasher. I have shipped m/m since 2002, in one form or another (there was that period of about 3 years I couldn't read any slash that had human characters, but I was still reading Transformers slash). I walked into this fandom a slasher. I walked into this fandom a Destiel shipper (with a predisposition to also ship Wincest).

I like quite a few of the female characters, but I don't ship them, at least not beyond canon events (Sam was in a relationship with Jess, Dean did have a past relationship with Cassie, Sam had a messed up relationship with Ruby, Dean did have a relationship with Lisa, etc, etc). Does that mean I hate women?

NO THE FUCK IT DOESN'T!

I can be "Meh" about female characters all I want, it doesn't mean I hate them.

So don't go calling me misogynistic just because I find more interest in slash fanfic than I do in het.
