I'm not a fan of serial television comedies (sitcoms, I guess). I can think of maybe one that I've liked out of the many I've been made to watch over the years. I really can't stand them 98% of the time, but a lot of my friends and family love 'em.

Looking back on my original comment, I probably should have just said 'shows', but to be honest, I'm not overly fond of comedies in general, especially ones centered on nerdy or sciency characters. Really not my thing.

Slots don't open up all that often, for one thing. None of the shows that the nominated actresses were from last year have gone off the air, so most of the nominees in 2012 will bear a striking resemblance to the nominees in 2011.

And I don't think the voters are overly inclined to reward anyone but Jim Parsons on that show. They'll sprinkle a few nominations around because it's a huge hit and fans of the show will be more likely to watch that way, but beyond that, I think it feels too safe and too traditional for it to win much else.

My mother loves this show like burning and when I'm at her house she's always got in on in the background. I've come to LOATHE Amy Farrah Fowler and Wolowitz, they're both such vile creepers and I'm sorry, THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL A SANE GIRL LIKE BERNADETTE WOULD MARRY THAT GUY. And any normal woman (Penny) would be running for the hills every time Amy showed up, not allowing her to constantly call her her BFF and give her naked oil paintings of them and OHMYGOD I HATE THIS SHOW SO MUCH.

I do like Sheldon, Penny, and the other 2 whose names I forget.

I feel like I should add that I think Mayim Bialik does a very good job portraying her character. I just can't stand the character. I'd definitely like to see her in other roles.

I liked to marathon that tv show (I just watched the first four seasons) but I can't take any more of Amy or Wolowitz.

I really like her character, tbh. I know nothing about the actress, but Amy reminds me a lot of myself, right down to the shitty social skills and the lack of experience when it comes to...well, anything.

I don't care much for awards shows and all that jazz, but I certainly would be happy if she did win something.

I know, right?! I was watching it one day, and realized Amy looked familiar to me somehow, and I couldn't quite place it. IMDB...and volia! I WAS FREAKIN OUT LIKE MAD!

That'd be awesome! Wouldn't surprise me, either. She's great, even if I don't always love Amy's portrayal (like, ugh, why's she gotta be madly in love with Sheldon when he doesn't want that? She should just get with Penny and everyone can be happy).

I find it funny how people are talking about how unlikeable the characters on BBT are. I mean, characters in TV comedies are supposed to be caricatures. They're not supposed to be the most likable people in the universe, and their vices are highly exaggerated. Personally, I find Amy to be rather funny, and I find the running gag about her being obsessed with Penny rather humorous.

Definitely don't see the actress winning an Emmy, though...

But...I think characters can be likeable even with exaggerated flaws? :/ I like watching sitcoms (though I'll admit I haven't watched any new ones in a while), and there are plenty of characters out there that are caricature-like, but also manage to transcend that and make me genuinely care for them. Unfortunately, this doesn't happen in BBT for me. The characters just fall a little flat.

This is just my opinion though. Different strokes for different folks, etc. *shrugs*

The ONLY time I liked this character was when Sheldon gave her a tiara and she went batshit crazy and started screaming "I'M A PRINCESS!1!!111!!!". I lol'd forever.

OMG that's awesome. I haven't seen any of season 5 yet. There's also an episode where the girls have a girls night out and they bring Sheldon--Amy and Sheldon wind up dancing and they are the funniest thing.

Like the character, dislike the actor. MB is anti-vaccination and that wipes away any good feeling I had for her.
