For me, I think the series with be a million times better if that lackluster useless Asami was gone. She's only there because Mako needed someone to date to make Korra jealous/give them a reason why they could finish the tournament. She's so boring and flat, ughhhhh

At least Asami isn't a self absorbed dick like Mako is. She actually has potential to develop because of what happened with her father, while Mako acts like jerk of the week again.

Agreeing with this. Though I'm annoyed that her function at least at first was basically "make Korra jealous" I do like her character and hope she rises above that.

How is Mako a self absorbed dick? I'm not even a major fan of him. I think the "cool" act he does is actually few and far between, if anything he's pretty funny and forthcoming. I'm not sure what he did that is so allegedly jerky besides maybe the first episode he's in. And we've seen him freak out multiple times when people he cares about are in danger, and jump headfirst into that danger to save them (Bolin, Korra). I actually finally started actively liking him in episode 9, and even was shipping Mako/Korra by the end of it.

You mean, other than cheating on his girlfriend, not telling her he cheated, telling his brother Korra was not dating material when he realized he was interested in her, telling Korra her worries about Sato were just her being jealous and threatening to end their friendship over it, etc?

LOL. I love how you people throw 'cheating' around as if he actually cheated. He, for a split second, kissed a girl back who KISSED HIM FIRST. He didn;t cheat, he didn't sleep with Korra. Or get hot and heavy with Korra. You might as well say Asami is a 'horrible daughter' for shocking her father. Or Bolin is "a perverted monster" for having his fly down in front of women.

She doesn't act...anything. Besides the fact that her VA rarely emotes, she doesn't...really...do...anything...interesting. She's just there, whining about everything is just "like her father"

How was she "whining" exactly? She just found out that her father was an equalist all along, I think she's handling herself well. At least she's not acting like an asshole to people and giving them mixed signals for no reason.

There is no reason to keep saying "like my father" at random moments. Plus she really annoyed me in nine. Forcing BOLIN to tell her something uncomfortable, when she should have taken it up with her boyfriend instead. And even the bit with her father was so forced. She got over it pretty quickly, too.

I guess struggling with it would give her some flaws, and we can't have that! e_e

She kicked a lot more ass than Mako. I really like her personally. I honestly don't know where you got the "she's just there whining" thing. She provides the team with a car, she fights as well as Mako if not better and imo she has a great dynamic with the team. I feel like she kind of rounds out the group.

I actually like Asami, not only as a potential female bestie for Korra, but as a foil to her as well. (Feminine, calm, collected to Korra's impulsive tom boyishness). I just wish she'd get some real character development. And if she and Korra become rivals over Mako, instead of friends, I swear I will legit quit the show.

THIS. I don't care which one of them ends up dating him as long as they're friends because I love the potential that friendship has. Asami/Korra endgame would also be awesome but lbr, it won't ever happen >:/

Mako is only there to provide a romantic interest for Korra. He has no personality besides being a jerk who can't seem to commit himself fully to any relationship he develops.

Asami on the other hand has the potential to develop as an interesting character and provides a counter to Korra's brash personality. It would be nice to see her character and Korra develop a friendship outside of being Mako's love interests.

lol what. Mako has a personality. He's indecisive, he's serious, he's egotistical, rash, dorky, protective, emotionally conflicted. He stands out on his own.

Asami on the other hand is just the pretty rich girl who races cars. She has no flaws what so ever, and no personality for that matter! Her only purpose in the show was to be Mako's girlfriend and cause drama, that's it. She doesn't do anything else. She's a bland papercut-out that doesn't bring anything to the show.

Seriously though I hate Mako. I hate his little bitchface. you know those badly written female characters that are only there to serve as love interest? Mako is the male version of on of those.

I've never hated a character like this before, its like they were trying to go 'broody boy girls will swoon over' but it just fell flat.

I agree. Mako is serious, but also not serious, a jerk, but can be kind. He doesn't like Korra, but likes Korra. He is impulsive, yet sensible.

lol what? did you forget everything Asami did in the last episode that LET'S SEE, they wouldn't have been able to do anything without her? provided a car, was the only one able to drive it, including great teamwork with Bolin's earthbending, and she fought better than Mako. I mean come on, Mako did nothing but act like a jerk and blow some fire in one guy's face.

Replace "Her" with "His" and "Mako's girlfriend" with "a source of drama for Korra" and you will have a description of Mako. I do think he has a personality but he hasn't had a chance to really SHOW it yet, nor has he done anything really important to the plot, except maybe getting that sponsorship from Hiroshi but that didn't exactly require any effort on his part.

I wish they would have focused more on his brotherhood with Bolin than his romantic potential and making him the "swoon-worthy strong quiet man". He's almost more fanservice than anything! He and Bolin have both kind of bored me from the start, but he's also starting to piss me off. He's being a jerk by playing Asami and Korra.

Hey now. Mako's apparently been pretty committed to his relationship with his brother his entire life- and before anyone throws the girl-Bolin-liked-had-the-audacity-to-like-his-brother example out there, keep in mind we're balancing their entire previous lives after their parents were out of the picture against one incident that Bolin doesn't seem all that permanently scarred over.

There was no way that relationship didn't require commitment, but Mako worked to sustain it.
