I only watched the pilot and I couldn't get over how crappy their police work was....

(Anonymous) 2012-06-13 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Lol, it gets worse, if you can believe it. Yes, worse than shooting a guy who's running away in the back and killing him and facing, like, no consequences.

I can't get over how crappy AND boring the police work is. I randomly checked out an episode and one of the cops spent half of it searching the perps house and still missing the basemen full of kidnapped women.

At this point I just kind of shrug off terrible police work in shows.

Yeah, I stopped watching it because every week felt the same as the last. I kept waiting for his wife to find out or reveal herself as some sort of creature. ANYTHING to give her a storyline. Nick is incredibly bland. I feel like all his conflicts are external.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-13 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually kept watching for exactly those reasons. For once the main character isn't drowning in emotional/family problems (even if this does make him and his wife somewhat bland).

And what OP mentioned about there not being enough hot actors: good, there are plenty of other shows where all main characters are pretty much professional models, so this was kind of refreshing.

I wouldn't go that far (I think David Giuntoli, Bitsie Tulloch, and Russell Hornsby at the very least are very attractive to me; frankly the only main characters whose appeal I still don't fully get is Monroe/Silas Weir Mitchell) in terms of hotness, and character-wise they do get a little less bland as things go along, but...yeah, I still haven't watched the last episode, and it's not like weighing on me.

I just had a very hard time connecting to the characters and still haven't, and I only keep watching because my friends do and I want to have something to talk about them with. Which is not that bad, really.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-13 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I sort of agree? Even though I love this show, I watch it mostly because I find the plot and backstory fascinating (and because I want to find out if my theory about Renard being some sort of fairy is correct). Some of the secondary characters are occasionally interesting, though. Nick has moments, but for the most part he's pretty dull.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-13 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I love this show, it's the only series I'm currently watching on TV. Nick is incredibly hot, and the relationship between him and Monroe is classic. And, believe it or not, I love the main het pairing Nick/Juliette, which is a first for me in any fandom.

I've read so many people say they tried this show and didn't like it at first but went back and rewatched more episodes and now can't quit it. So I think it's a slow starter but it definitely gets better and Nick gets intensely badass as the season progresses.

There is a wonderful female character, Rosalee the fox apothecary, who I hope we will see more of next season.

Although I'm not as into Rosalee as everyone else seems to be. Not that I dislike her, but I don't really see what she adds to the overall story.

Being bland and unsympathetic is one thing, and I can understand why you would lose interest but (and, admittedly, I've never watched the show) it's rather shallow to only care about the looks of the characters. :o Just because people don't look like supermodels doesn't mean they aren't entertaining and good actors!

[personal profile] fingalsanteater 2012-06-14 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Eh. I haven't seen the show, but maybe they are crappy actors too. Or, maybe they are good actors but their characters suck so much that it drowns out their acting. It's totally shallow to say "I only watch this because the actors are hot," but sometimes the only thing that is entertaining about a show/movie is that the actors are eye candy. We gotta get our kicks somehow. If the network is going to put a lazy piece of shit show on the air and expect us to enjoy their shallow efforts, then I don't see anything wrong with watching it shallowly.

I really tried watching this but I just couldn't seem to relate or connect enough to even focus on it and the main lead's eyes just don't seem to connect either. It feels like he's looking at everything through a wall.

GOOD! /bitter SPN and Sanctuary stan

But, seriously, I have considered giving it a spin, but every advertisement has looked really...boring. And I'm over "procedural drama WITH A SUPER COOL TWIST!"
If I'm gonna watch a cop show, I like to think it can stand on the strength of writing, without a nifty premise.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-14 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I like it, but it hardly has a flawless plot. There are so many weird glitchy things. The writing isn't the best, but it's fun. Nick and Monroe have humorous banter, some side-characters are kind of interesting, etc. Also, Nick, Hank, and a few others are pretty hot. I

it took me several episodes to get into this show. it has incredibly lazy writing. but it grew on me after a bit as something to pass the time and i'm looking forward to next season. sadly i would probably be into it more if there was anybody on it i could ship XD

I'm planing on going back and giving it another try, mainly to fill the hiatus until Supernatural comes back. But like many said, it didn't grab me from the pilot because of exactly those reasons. Nick would be handsome if he didn't look comatose in most of his scenes. His acting leave a lot to be desired. Monroe is supposedly better but he doesn't do it for me in the hotness department. I don't even remember the girlfriend which means her character must not have been that memorable.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-14 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Not so much a secret. The guy playing nick has the charisma of dryer lint, sadly. Monroe is epic, though.

I watch because I'm an Oregonian. Represent!

I don't think the characters are necessarily unsympathetic and I could care less about hotness. But I do think they're all pretty bland. Monroe is cool though. The premise is fun, and I like watching it, but it's not a favorite for that reason.

Also the fact that it is such a fucking sausage fest. I'm really glad they introduced Rosalee because she's another female and I have a feeling she's going to be a regular, but seriously? There's really no excuse for so few ladies. I mean there aren't even any at the police station.

The reason I couldn't get into it is because it takes itself SUPER SERIOUSLY for a show that has a ridiculous premise. C'mon, guys, I was hoping for something at least a little lighthearted!

But no, it's really heavy going and really serious and I just can't get into it at all.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-14 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I think it's what Supernatural wants to be. There's no constant angst (well, except for a little from Nick about whether or not to tell Juliet), the female characters are strong and capable (see: Rosalee vs. her brother's murderers, the "dragon" girl, Juliet vs. the Ogre and actually having a brain in her head, learning to defend herself, etc.). As for attractiveness: Sasha Roiz, anyone? David Giuntoli's cute, and Bitsie Tulloch is gorgeous. Monroe is perfectly snarky and caring at the same time...

Let me put it to you this way. I stopped watching Supernatural two and a half seasons ago, and this more than fills the hole left behind.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-14 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Are you me? The main plot with the captain and his European relatives and the resistance could move a bit faster, but other than that I can't really think of anything to add.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-16 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I gave Grimm the old college try (watched about 10 episodes) because it's the kind of show I usually like. But it was just so blah. The premise was good, but the characters were so dull and I just didn't care about what happened to anyone. Hard to get into a show that way.
