Nicknames in Texas don't have usually have phonetic or logical spellings. I'd say that nickname would probably be spelled M-O-O-N, Rud'.

I'm just kidding; I just thought it was funny that you specified that he was from Texas. I'd say just dropping the -y off Rudy makes sense, but nicknames are something that may never even have a "proper" spelling because it's just something informal that you or you friends use.

LOL admittedly, names down here often make zero sense. I have a handbook detailing several Texanisms, and odd nicknames is one of them. XD

For some reason it is really popular for boys under fifteen to go by their middle names where I lived in Tx.

How interesting. I've seen that more than I guess is normal, but it's still rarer than a nickname/first name. I know a bunch of guys named Joesph and John, and they have all kinds of creative nicknames to differentiate who is who. But those are both very popular names in South TX.

That's awesome- I was born in TX and my fiancé’s first base post tech school/when we get married is in San Antonio, so I got him several semi-joke books about Texas colloquialisms which I, at least, found exceedingly humorous. -_^

Awesome XD
I got mine at the capital giftshop when I visited Austin a few years back. There's an entire chapter on what y'all means and when to use it.

I suck at being Texan. I can't believe people eat their chili without beans and I didn't know weird nicknames were a thing. My parents could always justify my brother's nickname.

Nobody in my family's ever had a nickname; I only know a couple people IRL(I mean, friends) who have nicknames; a James that everyone calls Jim, and a kid everyone called Tory, 'cause her real name was the same as our city.
If it makes you feel better, I don't eat chili at all. Or tamales.
I do eat steak, though. And I'm pretty sure I own a cowboy hat, somewhere. If that redeems my Texan-ness.

You sound all hat and no cattle.

So true about nicknames not necessarily having a "proper" spelling. I know several people who have nicknames no one knows how to spell, myself included. That's right, I don't know how to spell my own nickname. *shrugs*

I just watched The Stand on Netflix, so the "M-O-O-N" reference made me LOL.

Haha, yeah, I know -- I thought it was a bit superfluous, but then again it could matter, so what the hey. Love the Stand reference XDb

Thanks so much for the input, I really appreciate it!
