I know it's stupid, but I always judge people when they say stuff like this because you're wishing people out of jobs (not the actors and writers, but all the lowly crew members who don't make millions a year) because you can't walk away from something that isn't giving you fannish satisfaction anymore. Plus, ya know, the normal argument about how there are people out there who are actually still enjoying it since it's still on the air, and this means you're selfish.

So you're supposed to wish crappy shows stay on because of their job-creating abilities? Isn't that a little silly? I mean, if one show gets canceled, others get greenlighted, therefore giving jobs to other people.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-19 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
The three of you are being silly.

But at least the OP above has a point beyond RUINED FOREVERRRRR.

If you don't like a show, stop watching it. If you can't stop watching, stop whining and wishing for people to be out of a job and without a show to enjoy.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-19 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
I never said anyone should wish a crappy show stays on the air.

I said I FELT like wishing a show would end is like wishing people would loose their jobs. I even couched it with "I know this is stupid, but..."

Either way, I still think the secret is douchy. If you aren't enjoying it, turn the channel FFS.

Really, though? That seems dangerously close to thought policing. I don't think fans can help being exasperated when something they love goes rotten. And I think the crew members will get over it- you don't work in entertainment without knowing that every job you get is temporary.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-19 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't say she shouldn't think it, I said I judged her for thinking it. Are you telling me I can't judge her? ARE YOU POLICING MY THOUGHTS?

(Anonymous) 2012-06-19 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Woah chill out we are all allowed to have thoughts right? RIGHT?

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2012-06-19 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I don't go as far as you but I do think it is kind of a dick move to think "Well, I'm done with this show so it should go away because clearly only I matter."

(Anonymous) 2012-06-19 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Because that's exactly what the OP said.

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2012-06-19 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. It is.

/not sure what you're trying to say?

(Anonymous) 2012-06-19 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
No, it isn't. He's saying that the show should have ended a long time ago because it's since worn outs welcome. Which I and a lot of others agree with -- the show is completely directionless now.

It's called quitting while you're ahead. It would be like saying "I think Star Wars should have stopped after RotJ" is selfish because OMG who are you to decide?!

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2012-06-19 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
The secret is from OP's perspective and even if other people agree with it none of them are required to watch it. The show will continue as long as it pulls in the ratings to justify its expense. So until it is cancelled I'm assuming someone out there enjoys watching it.

If you don't like watching a show it doesn't have to be cancelled. You just stop watching it.

/also, are you OP? If not, what led you to believe OP is male?
Edited 2012-06-19 01:02 (UTC)

(Anonymous) 2012-06-19 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
No, I'm not the OP. Just someone who agrees that Weeds has run its course. What lead you to believe that they were a girl? It's not as if Weeds has a gender-specific fanbase.

Also the show is being cancelled this year. Last season.

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2012-06-19 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
You're the one who specified a gender. I was just wondering if I missed something.

/congratulations on getting it cancelled. I assume it happened by enough fans not watching anymore. Which is how it should work.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-19 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
*shrugs* Guess I thought OP was a male the same way the other anons thought he/she was female. By assuming.

I assume it happened by enough fans not watching anymore. Which is how it should work.

Thank God the folks on Breaking Bad didn't follow that mantra. Or we'd have Season 11: Walt and Jesse on a whacky road trip.

<I know it's stupid</em>

Well, that's a relief.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-19 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Oops, should be screwed up the italics. :/

(Anonymous) 2012-06-19 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
The OP never said "I want it to be cancelled because I don't like it." Read it again.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-19 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
DA - Isn't that exactly what they said?

Please explain what this secret actually means.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-19 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
It means what it says. That its run its course and should have ended by now. That they're beating a dead horse. Etc

If Sopranos or Breaking Bad went on for ten seasons and had forsaken any semblance of plot, people would be saying the same exact thing. Saying that they're selfish for thinking that is idiotic.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-19 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
The person is watching a story. It's natural for them to want the story to end in a good place, for the characters to remain likeable or whatever to them. The people working on the show are not part of that. Do get angry when people enjoy plot twists that result in characters leaving the show? That puts somebody out of a job too.

Everyone who works in TV knows their job is temporary. That's how it works. Their resumes have lots of shows on them.

Judging someone for wanting the story to have a strong ending is judging the person for engaging with the story exactly the way they're supposed to be.
