Also, comparing fanfiction to other media is kind of silly. It's a whole other beast, with its own conventions.

Books, movies, etc. don't have trigger warnings, and yet many fanfiction authors warn for sexual content, death, etc.

THEY DON'T HAVE TO.

But they still do it.

Frankly, if we all stuck to "we don't have to do it" as an excuse, we'd all be dicks being dicks to other dicks all the damn time.

I think trigger warnings are nice or whatever, but I think they are another thing that no one is obligated to use. It annoys me when people act like authors are douches for not using them or that they are entitled to them.

If I want to accept the rules and freedoms of original fiction, I'll read a book. I'm reading fanfic in a specific fandom for a reason. Just put the damn label on it and quit pretending it's a master work of suspense.
