What's going to happen is that you're going to lose over half your readers, really. I guess a couple may get wanky about it if that's what you're into, but I mean, I've been there before and all that happened was that I decided I'd "misread" the hints and quietly moved on to the next fic on my list. No biggie. Still, when I write a long fic my goal is to keep as many people interested as possible so I can't help but feel this is somewhat counterintuitive.
