I think it is in part the romance novel effect. Real couples are human, they're not aesthetic perfection. They're genuinely sticky during sex, not artistically and intentionally just sticky enough.

It's like how a lot of guys find anime women prettier than real ones - art often doesn't immitate reality, it seeks to attain the perfection we can't really have.
