The more badass a male character is, the more I want to submissify him. Is that a word? I think it should be a word.

I've also found it hard to find fic where the woman is dominant but NICE. People seem to think dominant woman = sadistic hardass.

ETA: When someone says "I can't picture [character X] ever willingly submitting to anyone" I think YOU HAVE NO IMAGINATION.

That depends. I know I would never willingly submit to anyone. Ever. Period. I just don't swing that way.

Do I have no imagination? No, I have a preference. It's not hard for me to imagine a character being the same as me.

THANK YOU THIS THIS THIS OH MY GOD THIS. Nothing makes me go from 60 to 0 like the people who think they're going to find that magical circumstance, thing I like, or person to whom I want to submit. If I had a dick, you could WATCH IT WILT. It could be my awesome party trick, I swear.

And yet people say all the time in fandom circles that if a CHARACTER doesn't switch, whoever's writing her (or him) is imaginationless. Uh, in my case it's writing about a character I can relate to.

I mean I might not be all that creative, but if I'm not I seriously doubt that's why. I don't have any problem with someone else writing something different, and I might even enjoy reading it. But why do I have to agree that every character is a switch deep inside, when that's not how the real world works? Any continuum has actual people on the ends, dammit!

Heh. Now I'm all riled and kinda want to write a fic where someone tries to make said character submit, only to either be forced to submit himself or else just die a messy and painful death...

Anonymous didn't seem to be talking about a character who specifically said they wouldn't be interested in submission. Just people who think people who enjoy being submissive in their sex lives are a 'type' and are easily identifiable.

I don't mind not-nice dominant women at all, but there seems to be one standard version of "very sadistic dominant woman" that is just really unappealing and hard to identify with, IMO.

Twistedly/heavily dominant male characters, on the other hand, are portrayed in a lot of different ways. Therefore I often find them much more fun to identify with. It's sad.

OMG yes, yes to all of this, in my current OTP the guy is a badass, and the lady is quite a badass herself. I just can't can't help but see him as submissive to her in the bedroom, and she would never do anything to hurt him. I'll never see it in fic though, because I can't can't write porn at all, and hardly anyone else in the already small fandom even writes the ship. I've even tried some multi-fandom kink memes when I can find them, but my prompts always get ignored.

TL;DR: I'm sad because I'll never get the fluffy, fem-dom porn fic I want for my OTP.

Yes yes, this! I assume a lot of people don't know much about actual sub/dom relationships and just use stereotypes, but geez it gets grating real fast.

SO MUCH THIS. Nice female dommes are my biggest kink EVER. I don't choose fandoms by pairings (since I'm usually in a fandom for the gen), but I am always ridiculously glad when a new fandom of mine starts giving me fic featuring non-sadistic (or evil) dommes.

Like, seriously, I am frickin' reveling in The Avengers fandom right now because of all the Tony/Pepper (and even more Pepper/Steve/Tony and Pepper/Bruce/Tony) fics where Pepper is almost always this incredibly sweet but firm domme.

YES. I am fucking SICK of the Ice Queen domme stereotype. That isn't me AT ALL, and okay, while this isn't fandom, I really get sick looking through Fet profiles and such seeing all these domme women who seem to think they have to completely remove any spec of tenderness or kindness. I don't want to sleep with jerks who say shit like "Your only purpose in life is to serve ME and My Pleasure should be your goal, and you should be content in knowing that you have Serviced Me" (yes I have really read shit like this for serious), nor do I want to read about them in fiction.

Oh, my, this. When people think of submissive men, often they think of smaller, weaker, often younger and almost boyish men. And dominant women are portrayed as sadistic and into things like their shoes being licked and not often not actually in it for sex at all.

I'm totally with you on badass men. I'm attracted to big, buff, badass men. There is something so hot about a man who is physically strong who chooses to submit to you. And a true dominant doesn't have to be mean to get what they want (unless that is what the sub is into).
