I think Katniss is kind of simple and prone to emotionally react without actually thinking. She has a very straight forward no-deep-thoughts way of thinking. I think originally she was all about revenge fucking everyone over and making them have the Capitol Hunger Games, and then later she realized some shit and found a better solution (which coincidentally was also a quick emotional reaction with immediate satisfaction for her).

One of the most frustrating things about those books is how little Katniss thinks about things. I realize this is a whole part of the exploring the consequences of growing up in that kind of culture and not being taught to think for yourself etc etc etc, still pretty frustrating to read.

Thanks! I've never dived into the fandom because the bit I've seen I've always been convinced I have a totally different interpretation of the series. Nice to see I'm not totally alone!

Yeah, same. From what I can tell, the series is very dividing and tends to foster some very extreme differences of opinion in people.

...The entire trilogy is in her POV, and all she ever DOES is think about things. Haymitch is constantly haranguing her that she's not emotional ENOUGH, that she's being unconvincing to her audience. She was definitely out for revenge, but the revenge she wanted was against COIN for orchestrating the attack that KILLED PRIM (who she volunteered to save back in the first book, hence getting herself involved in all this crap to begin with, all for nothing, because Prim ended up dead anyway, at the order of someone who was supposed to be her ALLY). She spent the entire series saying that she never wanted kids if there was a chance they'd end up tributes in the Games. She had empathy during the victors' tour for the other districts whose tributes she had a hand in killing. There's no way in hell that she legitimately would have wanted a set of Games for the Capitol children.

Just... I have no idea where this idea comes from.

I can't understand how anyone could come out of the series with this opinion.

Katniss thinks and thinks and considers and struggles with moral questions through the entire series.
