...Enjoying reading about fictional babies/children is not the same as wanting to have one. I never want to have a child, even the thought being responsible for someone else's kid for a short amount of time is a nightmare to me. I love baby!fic, and kid!fic though, and I have for a really long time.

Yea, this. You aren't responsible for anything and it's just a story involving characters you like.

I enjoy baby!fic and kid!fic sometimes, but never have I thought I wanted children.

Maybe your friend wants kids, or maybe they don't...but either way I doubt fic has anything to do with it.

I have one child who is way out of the baby stage, and I have absolutely no desire to ever have any other children. But I like baby!fic and kid!fic and mpreg. LOL

Ditto. It sometimes amazes me how much I like my favorite characters (and OTPs) having babies even though I don't want one within ten feet of me.

I wouldn't touch a baby with a 10 foot pole, but I still occasionally like kid!fic, unless I really can't see my OTP wanting a baby.

I feel like baby!fic/kid!fic is a really good outlet for biological clock, especially if you don't necessarily want kids or if you don't want them straight away.

I like kid-fic too in some contexts. Hell, I even like other people's kids once in a while if I don't have to spend a whole lot of time with them.

For me baby!fic is just fantasy like werewolves or dragons. Fun to think about but not something I'd consider having in my real life. It doesn't hurt that I raised my brother and sister so personally know the difference between baby!fic and two am diaper changes, the absolute paranoia that consumes you when you look at the tiny, fragile human being you're responsible for, and teething.

Same! I love baby fic and children fic, single parents or older siblings with younger, any and all fic about people caring for children.

And I love kids, they're adorable and cute and clumsy and fail at being grown ups.

But I don't want one for myself. I don't want the fulltime responsibility or anything. I'm quite okay with babysitting and being the cool auntie with baby siblings - but right now and in the foreseeable future I don't want kids

(although I have considered fostering when I'm, idk, 45+? But those would be like teens)
