...Enjoying reading about fictional babies/children is not the same as wanting to have one. I never want to have a child, even the thought being responsible for someone else's kid for a short amount of time is a nightmare to me. I love baby!fic, and kid!fic though, and I have for a really long time.

Eh I don't really like babyfic and am not maternal but I'll read it sometimes because I realise I'm going against the grain by not really wanting babies. A lot of people do it so it makes sense some fictional characters would possibly go down that road at some point.

But yeah, was that image really necessary?

As long as you're not being pressured by family/friends/society etc. to have babies, does it really matter?

I mean, it is... frustrating... when a friend suddenly gets a lot into something you dislike or hate, but setting some boundaries, compromising on what topics to discuss and how much or just plain seeing that friend less often should fix that, right?

Even if your biological clock does kick in it doesn't mean you have to have a kid just 'cos 'baww my internal clock says so'. You're supposed to be a rational minded human and able to make decisions separate from your hormones. The potential biological urge to breed should not override your brain on the subject, especially when caring for another life for eighteen-plus years is concerned.

Also yes, that picture is disgusting. But I think that of most pictures of babies. Even so, that one is extra vile. Also a rather ugly baby regardless of the snot. Ew.

Well, in all fairness to that baby in the secret, it's clearly not at it's best at the moment. ;)

I'm sorry you and your friend aren't on the same page biologically at the moment OP, but hopefully (for you, at least) the sea of raging hormones is pretty much destined to ebb at some point. Have you tried talking to them about how you feel about this and whether- as a favor to you, their friend- they might squee about babies/fic about them a little less around you in the future? (There's gotta be someone else out there that will happily roll around in the baby!fic with them, so you are left in peace.)

Assuming that *is* your specific issue OP. It's hard to tell from the wording if you hate your friend discussing it or if you hate the fact that she's developed an outside interest that doesn't involve you.

i hate babies so much. every time i see one i get this irrational desire to punch it.

love kids though. once they learn how to speak they're so precious :) and i can't wait to have kids. but yeah, hopefully i don't want to punch my own babies. that would be awkward.

Just looking at that pic makes you feel ill because it's a natural reaction to seeing mucous. Humans are disgusted by sickness and other germy situations as an evolutionary measure to avoid contracting illnesses.

What else have we got here? Tired stereotypes of over women contracting baby fever after 30? Ridiculous statements that seem to infer that turning 30 means your personality suddenly changes because of hormones or some shit? (Thinly veiled misogyny?)

Well, I'm pretty firmly against having my own children but I get depressed knowing that I have literally no one to pass my legacy onto, nobody to take care of me when I get old, etc. (that last part is the most depressing)

But then I realize that all my reasons for wanting to have a child are pretty selfish and then I don't feel so bad about my decision. There are too many people who have children for selfish reasons and then don't realize how much SELFLESSNESS goes into raising them, so they just fail as parents. Those and the people who act like kids are accessories are just the worst kind of people

I grew up as an older sister and did deal with baby snot, but that doesn't make it any less disgusting. That is so gross.
Not disgusted by baby!fic, and don't hate babies, but I'm definitely Childfree.

I think this is a silly thing to worry about. If your biological clock clicks in and you stop finding babies disgusting, then you will have one less perfectly ordinary, mindblowingly common thing in the world that grosses you out. End of story.

It's not like babies are intrinsically disgusting. Your dislike of babies is just a squick, not a moral calling or the cornerstone of your personality.

As for your friend's reading habits -- You can pick your friends, you can pick your idfic, but you don't get to pick your friends idfic. Just ask her not to gush about kidfic to you.
