Am I the only person here who is not disgusted by that picture? Idk if I'm just so used it because I had to take care of my siblings when they were little, but...

used to it*

I hope that someday we'll be able to edit comments because it is very frustrating to reply to myself to correct typos

Well, I don't see anything wrong with the baby either (it's not like the baby can do anything about it, and there's only so much a parent can do to keep the baby clean, they drop snot and drool like woah), but if it's presented like the OP did, in the context of "THIS IS TOTALLY CUTE DON'T YOU LIKE BABIES" yeah, it doesn't work.

Although I don't like babies that much, I don't mind seeing pictures of them. It's in times like, in health seminars at high school when we had to watch power point presentations about sex safety and then out of nowhere the representative is all "LOOK AT THE PICTURE OF THIS ADORABLE BABY. ONE DAY YOU TOO WILL HAVE ONE. AREN'T YOU EXCITED" that piss me off.

(please tell me it wasn't just my school that pulled that shit out of nowhere ;___;)

My school showed us a slideshow of deformed/ill babies conceived by parents who were on drugs/alcoholics when they conceived/throughout their pregnancy.

They scared everyone from every having a baby while doing drugs. And some people I think were scared off of babymaking for forever. :(

(Anonymous) 2012-06-27 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ohhhh. That would have been an interesting alternative. With us it was more showing us the effects of STDs on the genitals. With tons of pictures.

You can edit comments, at least so long as no one's replied to them yet. There should be an edit icon in the grey bar.

Oh, yes, I see it now. Thanks!

(Anonymous) 2012-06-26 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
You aren't. I don't have kids or younger siblings but I don't find this particulary disgusting. The pic sure isn't flattering but eh. If I can clean up my cat's vomit without a twinge of disgust then I can stomach messy kids.

You're not the only one. Oldest of five siblings here; a snotty nose is nothing.

Not the only one. I don't have kids myself but I've been around babies quite a bit in the past year (and hopefully in the coming year) so I'm used to it. My line of thought was 'ok, he's got the cutest little face ever though he can stand a nose wiping but other than that, ADORABLE!'

The baby has a completely normal cold. A few seconds with a wipe before snapping this picture would have rendered a completely different infant unto us.

I'm the oldest of four (tweleve year age difference between the youngest and myself so I did literally practically help raise her) and started babysitting when I was twelve, and I see nothing to raise alarm bells with this photo, either. Like I said, easy fix if anyone had cared to do so.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-27 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Personally, I'd find it repulsive anyway. There's just something so ugly and creepy about babies. Humans are the only mammals that have infants that are hideous compared to the adults and it weirds me out so much. Why does this happen?

(Anonymous) 2012-06-27 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
...You haven't seen many newborn animals, have you?

(Anonymous) 2012-06-27 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Not a huge abundance, no, but I have been present for a few animals births (kittens, puppies, calves and foals) and I've never seen a newborn animal that looked less cute than a newborn human. And baby animals start looking adorable as soon as they're no longer covered in goo. Baby humans continue to look repulsive for about a year and a half.

I'm not, but then again I was the oldest of four children and the youngest one is eight years younger than me, so I grew up surrounded by babies. I also used to work in aftercare at a school, taking care of three and four year olds. So I'm used to that kind of stuff (the picture's pretty tame, I mean, changing diapers is a lot worse than cleaning runny noses or cleaning up spittle/vomit, IMO)

This. I mean, I feel more sorry for the poor kid than sickened. Runny noses are normal occurrences and there's worse messes to have to clean up.

nope. that kid just looks like a plain baby to me. nothing to do with my experience with them or anything even.

I think it's really cute.

Nothing a tissue can't solve.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-27 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. I take care of sick animals all the time. Compared to some of the stuff I have seen, this is nothing.

I'm not, probably for similar reasons. I was almost seven when my little sister was born, so I witnessed all of her baby-ness. Idk, babies can't help it if they have a little snot on them.
veronica_rich: (Default)

[personal profile] veronica_rich 2012-06-27 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
It's been a good almost-20 years since I had to wipe a nose that looked like that, so yeah, I'm kind of skeezed by it. It's not the kid's fault, but did the photographer really need to snap it like that? What possible reason could there have been? Ugh.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-27 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm fine with it. I was honestly surprised to scroll down and read all the people going "ew ew ew" on a FS post where bloodied pictures are not warned for and people don't blink twice at orgasm discussion.

Especially that anon who wants to punch them.

It's a baby. They tend to be wrinkly, small and snotfaced. They haven't got an immune system yet and it's not like they're doing this intentionally.

Just...scroll on, the photo of the baby with a tiny bit of snot isn't going to kill your libido of the day

[identity profile] watrox26.livejournal.com 2012-06-27 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
not one bit but then again I regularly read the shut the f up parents blog and the stuff posted on there is far worst including snot covered kids. so if people are icked out by this picture stay far away from that site. plus im the eldest of four and there is a big age difference between me and my siblings, so I helped my parents out with them including all the yucky stuff.
so this picture doesn't even register on the gross out scale.
