in my experience het shippers aren't much better, and they have a lot more canon stuff to go with most of the time, so yeah I think no shippers are excempt from being assholes ;)

Fans of pairings in general do this, actually. Speaking as someone who ships slash, het, femslash, and poly depending on the fandom and characters, believe me, it's not a thing reserved just for slashers.
