Sorry. Never seen the Clint/Coulson shippers disrespect Natasha in any way (in fact there is loads of really good "trio" fic around) and neither do I recognise a ship war.

I've seen it on occasion, but I've seen a lot more Coulson/Clint/Natasha or Coulson/Clint where Natasha is still Clint's BFF.

It's not all writers, it's not the entire fandom.

Natasha is always really chill, and remains pretty darn awesome in every "Avengers" fic I've read. I suppose I've just managed to avoid a cruddy section of "Avengers" fandom?

Who has been bashing Natasha? Most of the fandom seems pretty in love with her (me included). Her and Clint are the Most Awesome BFFs Ever in every fic I've read that featured the Clint/Coulson pairing.

I admit to totally shipping her with Pepper though, not Clint. I like seeing a guy and a girl actually just be friends, and the movie canon is ambiguous enough I can blissfully do that. And Natasha/Pepper hits a preference I didn't even know I had for badass!ninja with badass!capable.

Okay I'm just going to put this out there: I'm a huge Clint/Coulson shipper, and I love the Clint/Natasha friendship/history, and I've definitely never seen anyone actively bash Natasha, but I do get kind of bored of her being so rah rah cheerleader about them getting together or being together in fic. I just...she's got her own stuff to deal with. She's got her own life. She doesn't exist in the canon to be The Girlfriend and she shouldn't exist in fic just to be The Supportive Best Friend.

Hell I'd love it if she were occasionally less then pleased with the relationship in fic, not for jealousy reasons, just for the potential power imbalance/emotional comprising that could go into it.

20. I.. for the life of me don't understand why people ship Clint/Coulson. Am I missing something? Not that I have any problem with either ship.

Really happy to hear the girls get treated well, though. Most of the stuff I see pretty much pretends they don't exist, so maybe I'm just on the wrong side of fandom...which is a shame because I'm such a huge Thor/Jane and Tony/Pepper shipper I just cannot even. Any good recs for those?

From the Avengers fic I've read in general (the pairing I read has a lot of Clint/Coulson & Steve/Tony) the entire team is like a huge puppy fest. Everyone likes everyone else. I've never seen Natasha or Pepper treated in a bad light. But then, I'm into such an odd/unusual pairing in that verse, maybe I'm missing it.

I don't ship it, but in the fics I've read where it's been a thing (secondary pairings, yo) Natasha's never been treated badly.

Unless - your secret is kind of vague, are you unhappy she's treated well?

So, let me get this straight. You hate that generally fandom treats her with respect, doesn't villainize or demonize her to make Clint/Phil work and both characters respect the hell out of her/are friends with her in the majority of fic?

Yes, Clint/Natasha WERE canon in the comics. Sixty years ago. Sure Clint/Phil is based on very little interaction. But I've seen far more wicked and toxic behavior from Clint/Natasha shippers toward other ships (Hawkeye/Mockingbird for instance), than I've ever come across from Clint/Phil shippers.

I've never seen her written badly in a Clint/Coulson fic, but it's tempting to disregard your point of view either way when you feel the need to imply that one pairing deserves more respect because of canon points, because I kinda hate that shit.

Have I somehow managed to find non-horrible parts of a fandom for once? If it's brought up, I've always seen any past relationship treated with respect, and if Natasha appears in a fic, she's always treated well. Avengers fandom seems generally fantastic at not bashing amazing female characters who might be 'in the way' of slash ships. I've found it an unbelievably refreshing fandom no matter what you ship.

Er. I think you have the wrong fandom/ship. Because anything I see with Natasha in a Clint/Coulson ship tends to be that she and Clint are still incredibly close (sometimes to the point of sleeping in shifts or in the same bed because of mutual paranoia), and usually that she and Coulson get along fine as well. I have honestly never seen anything where Nat is demonized (well, okay, there was one where she was an actual demon, but Clint was too), or made to look bad for the sake of making Clint/Coulson look better.

Personally I don't really ship Nat/Clint because I think it's just too awesome and rare to have a man and a woman be friends, companions, and comrades to the degree that they are without it needing to become something sexual.

Honestly the Clint/Natasha fandom occasionally bothers me in how it basically changes Natasha's character and makes her blushing and demure in fanart. I know, I probably wouldn't have this issue if I shipped Clint/Natasha instead of Bruce/Natasha, but hey.

Avengers fandom is the second fandom *ever* where i will happily read f/f and f/m pairings. I've not once come across any of the women being bashed or made into a 'bitch' so the OTP could get it on.

It's about the most fun fandom i've ever been in, and so far i'm not running into any kind of craziness or wank or *anything*.

So you - are definitely reading in the wrong places.

IDK what you guys have been reading, but I've seen a number of popular fics where Natasha is either characterized poorly or shunted offscreen in order to make way for endgame C/C. It's really annoying that this type of C/C chokes the Clint/Natasha tags everywhere.
