Attractive? He's going bald. And he could easily be Darcy's dad or grandpa - wasn't she supposed to be a student? And he's all grey all over? Nasty age difference there, Anon.

Someone likes something you don't like. It's okay anon, we have people here for that. (Somewhere.)

[identity profile] natural_blue_26.livejournal.com 2012-06-26 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, aside from the fact you appear to be more of a 'looks are 100% more important than personality' type yourself based on that comment, AND the fact that I know plenty of people who definitely think he's attractive, is it so outside the realm of possibility that people like things that you don't like... And there's nothing inherently wrong with that?

Also person in their twenties to person in their thirties is not an age difference that's going to get too many people's panties in a twist around here - and much greater age differences have been no deterrent to shippers everywhere.

Thirdly, a two second Google (http://www.google.com/search?q=Agent+Phil+coulson&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=ykfqT8TWG8Hq0gGr2pTMAQ&biw=915&bih=550&sei=zEfqT4ivEqXi0gGw5fSuAQ) will wield you tons of results of Coulson having hair that is *not* gray all over. Please try again.

One of my grandfathers went gray in his very early 30ish- hair color wasn't really so much an age marker so much there.

Huh? Clark Gregg is 50. He's 24 years older than Kat Dennings.

Unless I missed something stating Coulson to be younger or Darcy to be older, that's a pretty big age difference.

person in their thirties

Wait... really, they say this? Did the movies seriously try to get us to buy that?

Re: Someone likes something you don't like. It's okay anon, we have people here for that. (Somewhere

(Anonymous) 2012-06-27 07:58 am (UTC)(link)
Lol what.

a) Clark Gregg is 50, and looks 55 easy. No way is Coulson supposed to be younger than late-40s max, but 50s probable. In fact, I'm pretty sure Fury and Coulson are supposed to be similar ages. I've already been told Fury "is too old to ship with anyone". Apparently, this need not apply to pasty white asses. (And in what world does Fury *look* older than Coulson? Coulson looks like a banker gone to seed, srsly. And that was the whole point of casting him back in IM - that he looks unassuming and old, not at all like a secret agent). And Darcy is 22 at most. That is not entirely a 'normal' age difference. That's the age difference between me and my parents. If you're writing that, I'd like to see a *little* acknowledgement of this aspect of their relationship in the fic.

b) And to address your earlier point: what personality, man? He and Darcy are basically fandom's approved avenues of self-insertion. All we actually know of him from the movies is that he's a Cap-fanboy and Fury's PA and can handle common gas-station goons.

I like Coulson in the movies quite a lot, but fandom!Coulson has as little to do with movie!Coulson as C/C!Clint has to do with Clint in any incarnation.

lol ikr?

as someone with zero investment in avengers fandom but who keeps track of it because of comicstore_news, i find this whole sexy little black dress coulson thang très amusing.

someone once told me here on fs that there are more coulson/clint fics on ao3 than thor/loki. THOR/LOKI.

hi-fucking-larious.

You want to know a weird age difference? My mum is twelve years older than my dad. THAT'S an age difference that really makes people go "WTF!"

Coulson/Darcy is probably a ten year age difference or so. Not a big deal. Some of us actually are the result of those nasty age differences... :|

Coulson/Darcy is probably a ten year age difference or so

really? how old are they going for coulson in the avengers? because imdb tells me clark gregg was born in '62 and dennings was born in '86.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-27 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT

I read somewhere he was supposed to be in his mid-thirties. I would guess Darcy to be in her mid-twenties in-movie. I'll see if I can find the article again.

Harpo Marx met his wife when he was 40 and she was 20. Or maybe it was plus five years. Either way, twenty-year age gap.

Still one of the sweetest romances to come out of Hollywood.

You sound... very young, anon.

While I do agree that the age difference for shipping him with Darcy isn't something I'm into, how about Tony? Pepper? Nick? All well within age brackets.

As for being attractive, you do realise your personal opinion on that doesn't mean everyone has to agree with you, right? Because... mmmm, yes please, Agent.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-27 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with you, anon sounds really young.

Also, MPB strikes lots of people. I can think of three off the top of my head who were balding as much as Coulson, if not more, by age 25. It happens. Coulson's isn't even that advanced.

People shipping him with Darcy does give me a bit of a 'hunh?' moment, but that's all Darcy. I can't imagine her personality being attracted to Coulson is all. Tony, yes (common consensus puts him between 35 and 45) because they work together personality wise.
dazzledfirestar: (Default)

[personal profile] dazzledfirestar 2012-06-27 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I'm well aware of the MPB issue. But that being said, I tend to run a character close to the age of the actor playing them and Clark Gregg is 50 so I tend to think of Coulson as mid to late 40s at the least.

I can't see either of them being attracted to each other (in Darcy's case). lol But then, I left Avengers shipping the hell out of Phil/Nick so... yeah. I'll just be over here. LOL

(Anonymous) 2012-06-27 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, I didn't mean to address that previous one to you, but to the anon above. I'm afraid I just threaded it the wrong place.

I agree I don't see either Darcy or Coulson going for the other one. The most would be a platonic mentoring relationship. I mentioned Tony because he's a lot closer in age to Coulson, but could conceivably be written in a non-crack ship with Darcy, where they would bond of ignoring authority and their 'shoot first' mentalities. Even then, though, I see it more as a friendship.

Haha, yes!Fury/coulson is one of my rarepairs. The only problem I could see is it never getting past a friendship due to fraternization policies. (Plus it ruins my crack-headcannon that Fury's married to someone just like Frozone's wife because she's a BAMF)

[personal profile] dazzledfirestar 2012-06-29 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
No worries. lol It happens.

lol On your last point, I'm just going to leave you with this:

(Anonymous) 2012-06-27 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, even though the age difference wouldn't be there, I don't think it would be much better to date someone young who is already going bald. That's actually worse, since they're not just going bald, they're going bald at a young age. By the time they are older, they'll probably be completely bald and if you have children, they might inherit the early balding thing.
fingalsanteater: (Default)

[personal profile] fingalsanteater 2012-06-27 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
LMAO! Seriously? Balding isn't like Huntington's disease or some other devastating genetic disease. And, research on genetic factors for mpb found the condition is linked to the X-chromosome. My knowledge of genetics is shaky, but I'd say that means it's maternally linked, seeing as males get a their X-chromosome from their mom.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-27 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
and when you get fat, no one will want to date you, either.

keep eating, dumbcunt

(Anonymous) 2012-06-27 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
True, the gene for baldness is carried through the mother. That's why hair loss affects more men than women. Men only need one gene with it, women need two.

Also, baldness has been linked to higher testosterone counts, which is probably why so many athletes and businessmen have forms of it. It's actually an indicator that they're more likely to be motivated to be the best they can be, and father healthy children. That's part of why bald heads are inexplicably interesting, even if not conventionally attractive.

Yes, that bald, nasty-ass, unattractive skanky Patrick Stewart, too.
