Mr.Simmons from Hey Arnold was homosexual. Confirmed by the creator. Hell, even Rocko had a trans character. (The hippo-lady)

She's also in the ding-dong-ditch episode. Of course there's also Him from power puff girls, and the red devil guy from Cow and Chicken, but that's a different network of course!

I watched the cartoon in a different language, and in it a woman voiced that character.

Oh, I see! Well, the gimmick is, is that whenever she's not angry, she has this high-pitched voice, but when she gets mad, she has a man's voice. Pretty much implied.

Though I don't know if the sex jokes carried over into another language...but Rocko was pretty adult. Things like Rocko being a sex-phone operator and the "No Tell Motel" where all you can hear in the background is moaning. Things like that :P

Ah. Thanks for telling me! With a woman's voice all the time, the joke is just Rocko bumping into inappropriate areas of her and her not believing him when he says it's an accident.

I remember not getting the sex-phone operator joke (I was very young), just knowing that it was a joke that I wasn't understanding. I did get the idea that Heffer and the milking machine in that farm had to be something sexual, though.

I was grinning with glee when I found the No Tell Motel scene on youtube.

So many adult jokes. So much surrealism. I miss that series. :(

Oh yeah, it was great! Cow and Chicken took it a bit further on the raunchy side though. STD jokes, homosexuality references (Though Rocko does have an episode where they chase Rocko down with pitchforks for liking rainbows, lol) gender issues, stuff like that. They even have a banned episode entitled 'Buffalo Gals'

If you're interested in a show that has the same vibe as Rocko, I'd go with Dan VS. It's a kid's cartoon on The Hub that has A LOT of adult humor in it. (Sex jokes, gore, movie refs, adultery refs, etcetc)

In our (Swedish) dub, she was voiced by a man, if I remember correctly. I remember thinking it really odd but fun when I was a kid. >>

There have been more than a few cartoon characters confirmed as gay by the creators...usually after the show finishes airing. And their sexuality is never really shown in the actual show. It's very different from having a character actually be shown romantically involved with someone of the same sex in show.

Actually acknowledged in show before it was already complete and the creator no longer had to hold his tongue? Not so much.

Not saying there weren't hints, but he'd never have introduced that guy as his boyfriend.
