I'm not the best person to answer since chewing doesn't usually trigger me, but for me it's basically summed up by "It's different." Not an interesting answer, I know. :-/

That said, I can't stand heavy breathing or snoring and this one includes myself. To get to sleep I *have* to have my fan (or something that would make a neutral background noise loud and constant enough to block out breathing sounds without keeping me awake itself).

Yay for white noise! It's not necessarily a requirement for me, but it's definitely preferred. I have an old floor fan from childhood that my parents originally bought to help me sleep, because without it I apparently had violent nightmares involving flying snakes or something. :) /csb
