I adore this song, and that entire album.

I had no idea it was ridiculed - overplayed a bit, like Linkin Park in the early days of AMV, yes, but not ridiculed.

See now, I knew nothing about this trailer (don't follow DA) and I still recognized this song immediately as "that song."

It pretty much is like the Linkin Park amv's. In fact, go on youtube, type "this is war amv" see what happens.

I think it's because you can find a fan video for pretty much every vaguely action-oriented series set to this song. It's on a ton of fanmixes, too.

It's not so much that people hate it, just that they're sick of it.

idk, I liked (and still like!) the song independently of DA:O and I still find it weird. I think it's the break in thematics - it just feels weird to go from the game's score to a jaunty pop-punk song, regardless of the quality of said song.

In terms of AMVs, though, pretty sure it's just over-saturation.

I like it too, and while it is indeed overplayed and I'm not sure it fits in with the rest of the game soundtrack, I'm fine with it.

The reason being it doesn't fit the rest of the soundtrack. The Elvish song they play earlier is what fit. To fans, this song is a reminder of the terrible, terrible marketing campaign that advertised all the wrong things to all the wrong people.

Remember that this game was supposed to represent the return to the classic RPG. Baldur's Gate II, and all of that. The modern rock songs bothered people because it spoke poorly of BioWare's confidence in classic RPGs.

That said, I think the lyrics of the song fit fairly well with the actual game, and I didn't mind it's inclusion, since we did have an appropriate song and it actually came first in the credits anyway.

I've got a similar fear - though it's more focused on stuff like 'What if humanity was suddenly wiped out...but my cats were still alive? Who would take care of them? etc'. *That's* what gives me panic attacks @_@

you don't have outdoor cats then, do you?

But don't worry. They'd miss you at first, because they're lovely creatures of habit like that, but they'd mostly likely be fine. In fact, they'd probably eat your corpse as soon as you stopped breathing. :)

Best Harry Potter AMV I ever saw was to this song. I like it.

Though it does seem to be used a lot, I guess? I don't care. I still like it.

I fortunately haven't seen the hate for this song yet. It will make me very sad once I do. Because when I was finished playing the game (and I partly blame it on being incredibly in love with the game and incredibly tired and accordingly giddy when I finished it, but anyway) and the song started playing during the credits, I thought it was fucking awesome. Like, woah.
Without really fitting into the general musical theme of the game, it seemed to fit the whole "Everyone standing united against the Blight"-situation incredibly well and I was quite in love with everything about it. I was in the right mood for an overly cheesy motivational war-pop song and it just seemed to click.
Even when I actually listened to the song again with a clearer head the next day and realised just how cheesy it really was, the feeling I had about it the night before didn't really go away, and the song is now one of my most uplifting, favourite guilty pleasure songs, haters be damned.

+1

This is an accurate summation of my thoughts on the song as well.
