So, how many of these have you travelled with?
You knew this was coming, though. It's spider time!
source
...No, wait, that's wrong. Let's do it a little differently today, though.
Some of you might've seen this gif around before. As cute as the name 'nope spider' is, it's actually known as either the Wheel Spider or Golden Wheel Spider. It lives in Southern Africa, and is a huntsman spider. The wheels you can see it do down slopes are what happens when it notices a parasitic wasp around and needs to get out of there quickly. Nothing quite like barrelling down the side of a dune at a meter a second!
source
Here's what it looks like when it's not spinning, and here's a video of its fascinating antics!
The interesting thing is that this spider isn't the only animal that's mastered the art of rolling out of there. There's an inch-long pebble toad that does the same thing, actually, pebbling up and bouncing down the slopes it's on. And this guy does it in response to a predatory spider.
Check this out for more! It's narrated by the one and only David Attenborough, and definitely makes for interesting viewing.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-27 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)I'll be honest -- that HUGE spider is freaky, but the rolling one is adorbs, so... Small victory?

I always thought of Angelo as a border collie for some reason. o_0

Puppy?
And I did think border collie, but Australian Shepard colours work a lot better for Angelo, considering what he looks like in game!

You're right - I think I just wasn't familiar with Aussies back when I first played the game.

D'awwww, puppies! Someday, I want an Aussie or a Border Collie. Until then, I'll keep my Schnauzers.

And awww, all the dogs (and the bonus puppies in the comments!). And the rolling spider and toad are fascinating.
