GRRM sucks though.

Of course he sucks less than most genre authors, but if an ~imitator~ pops up to steal his throne (see what I did there?) I would not be mad. Maybe then we could get a book that shouldn't have been edited down to 50 pages when all was said and done.

I love ASOIAF, despite all its flaws, but I'd love to see a 'better' version of it. Something that would have all the things that are awesome in ASOIAF, but none of its flaws. I just have no idea how anyone could write that without being written off immediately because they only 'stole' GRRM's ideas.

Someone already did. Joe Abercrombie. His books are like GRRM without the creep factor, filler characters or food description word-count padding. In fact they're some of the best-paced and cleverest books in the genre right now. Try "Best Served Cold" -- it's like if Kill Bill took place in a world like GRRM's.
