Here's the thing, you don't know what you're going to like UNTIL YOU READ IT.
If I had a dollar for every time I've read a fic (or book, or watched a movie etc) that I was enjoying until the author botched the ending, I could at least buy myself a pizza from the good place.
Also, I'm perfectly within my rights to talk about whatever I want to with other people. And you know what, THEY DON'T HAVE TO AGREE WITH ME! It's like Magic!

It's one thing to not troll, or to try and maintain a civil discourse, but to try and silence my dislike, let alone my anger, is so dismissive and so infuriating, that I want to prod them with statements like "So, how does your country treat dissenting opinions?"

(Anonymous) 2012-06-28 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)It's a lot easier for you to just stop reading something than for you to identify an aspect of fiction you don't like and attempt to eradicate it from the earth.

Did anyone say anything about eradicating something they didn't like? I seem to recall reading a secret that said, hey, everyone does this thing, it's not realistic, why does no one do something else.
I know there's a tendency among humans to see anyone that disagrees with us as the enemy. But that's really not what's going on here.
Also, just because it's not easy and looks impossible to eliminate problematic things from fiction, i.e. homophobia, doesn't mean the fight to change public opinion and culture isn't worth fighting for.
