Are those two...all that original? I mean, I love their work and I love Joss as a human in general (...not so much GRRM), but I don't think the strength of their stuff is in its overall originality, it's in the depth and the specific characters and the complexity. But, like, space westerns and sci-fi action and medieval monarchy-fighting has totally been done and will continue to be done. I guess maybe their styles could be imitated...but we'd all recognize Buffy Speak right away, right?

This exactly. The ideas themselves have been done a million times; it's the execution that's the important part for both of these guys.
