...I feel like I've seen this pic several times over the years online (and remember when the ads for it came out), and there's always this HORROR at it that I never quite got. Maybe their personalities (though this was from their more lucid years), but I don't think they're somehow beyond the pale physically. Plus, the shoot itself was for a comedy, so it feels different from, say, David Hasselhoff doing that naked pin-up with puppies. I dunno.

This! I know I've been told I bad taste and all, but I don't find either of them OH GOD! THE HORROR! unattractive, in that picture or otherwise. I actually think that image is pretty sexy.

Honestly, I think the outrage is mostly due to Rosie's looks not adhering to current cultural standards of beauty. Remember when she was Betty in 'The Flinstones' movie? Everyone was like, "Ewwwww! Betty is supposed to be sexy!" Say what you will about the movie, but I thought Rosie was good as Betty.

I truly don't understand what's so horrifying about that pic. Yes, it's people you aren't used to seeing in a sexual context. Yes, Akroyd's mugging for the camera and they're playing up the comedy.

Yes, it's Rosie O'Donnell - but I don't see a single thing wrong with the way she looks in that corset. I think folks are looking at the face, shrieking OMGROSIE and not actually *looking* at her. She's fucking hot.

...mind you, the movie's most violent sex act was utterly FUCKING the book, can't argue with that. But don't blame the hot chick in the teddy who just *happens* to be someone you've heard of before in a different context.

I looked this up, and now I'm glad I know about it. I'd never heard of any movies/books that show BDSM with the female character as the dominant one unless it's played as something really negative.

Oh, man, this movie totally made a mess of the book. I'm kind of hoping they (whoever "they" turn out to be) take the exact same approach when they make a movie out of 50 Shades, though.

Anon, I hear you on this. I was older than you when I first came across this movie, but it affected me in very much the same way. I was raised in a very religious environment and was just coming to terms with the idea that sex was actually OK. Seeing women in powerful sexual roles in this movie was HUGE for me.

I thought Rosie was fucking HOT in her domme gear. I loved seeing a woman who wasn't the Hollywood standard then (and REALLY isn't compared to the Hollywood standard of today) being shown as desireable, even taking into consideration the limitations of the comedic nature of the film
