Yeah I almost feel like the part of the Merlin fandom that happens to dislike Gwen for no reason must create a reason to dislike her so they go for the fact that she often has cleavage showing.

While I do ship Merlin/Arthur I'm kinda scared of all those crazy fans. Also if boobs are a deciding factor in a relationship I start to worry :P

honestly if the writers/directors didn't focus so much on Gwen's boobs instead of giving her an actual storyline/personality apart from 'Arthur's love interest'-

actually you know what, I think she'd be hated by half the fandom if that happened still, but at least I'd enjoy it more. The cast has already turned into this big sausage fest with what, two girls? I mean I don't mind the boys but the girls get such a shit deal (and you're right, the fandom's approach to them is just disgusting and I'm glad I'm not in the fandom that actively anymore).

Gwen has nice cleavage, yes, but whenever Gwen's in the screen nowadays it's like BOOBS and then... nothing else

I'm sick of it too. I especially hate it when it gets wrapped up in faux feminism bullshit such as "I wish Gwen got character development instead of more cleavage". Me too on the first count, but what the hell has it got to do with her breasts?

It's just slut-shaming due to shipping wank. Morgana and other female characters have a lot of cleavage on display, but - oh right, Morgana's dirty pillows don't pose any sort of threat to other pairings.

Maybe I don't want to leave breasts out of it. Maybe I like breasts! She does look really pretty here though. Love the dress. That said, I DO agree that Merlin needs some new clothes. So does Arthur actually. For god sakes, LET THEM CHANGE CLOTHES ONCE AND A WHILE.

I haven't been a part of this fandom in a long time (even though I do watch the show...usually much later than everyone else), but Gwen started boring me after the first or second season, and I very much think Arthur/Gwen was rushed and not at all well written but...there's no reason to fixate on something like this. It's just petty.

TL;DR: Ship what you want to ship, but even if you don't like other characters or pairings try to be civil about it. I have (in the past) seen people insult Gwen's looks and...grr.

I think the general consensus is that character-wise, S1-2 were the best, while plot-wise, not so much.

It makes me forever sad that I got into fandom between S2 and S3 airing and I fell back out again not long after S3 started because of BS like what's mentioned in the secret.

i <3 gwen so much. i used to love morgana too until she became a piece of evil cardboard. it makes me a bit sad because i think after morgana became evil and gwen became destined to marry arthur, both of them lost some of their personality (well, morgana way more than gwen). oh well, though, it's not like i watch that show for the ladies, anyway.

as for her boobs, they are kind of a little too there. i always wonder about it, every time i see her in a new outfit i just get confused as to why they're all out and about, especially when she was morgana's maid.

I agree with everything in this comment. I love Gwen, but every now and then when the camera would do close-ups of her upper body I'd get so distracted by her cleavage. Because I'm pretty sure that Morgana didn't wear dresses that accentuated her breasts as much as Gwen's. Most of the time I just thought that the clothing department at Merlin must suck if they can't even tailor Angel dresses that aren't too small.

That said, the dress in the secret is absolutely gorgeous and I'm looking forward to seeing it for a whole ep. Don't disappoint me, show!

Blah. This show is already overflowing with two-dimensional shirtless dudes, so I'm not about to start complaining when the rare male gaze pops up here. Equal flaunting of pretty cast members being pretty is cool with me.

I think the only reason I'm still watching Merlin is because I love Arthurian legends THAT much and just can't quit anything incorporating them. The writing can be pretty poor at times. That being said, I like pretty much all of the characters. Merlin's Gwen is actually the first incarnation of Guinevere I actually like, so props to them for that, though I primarily ship Arthur/Merlin. In the recent seasons, she AND the others seem to be a little one dimensional - especially Morganna, who I've always loved (be she Morgan le Fay, Morgause, separate, together, whatever). She's kind of cardboard cutout villain now, and that's sad. :(

The show is a fun guilty pleasure sort of watch for me, however, and Mordred is coming back, grown up now, next season. Mordred is ALWAYS my favorite, in almost every adaptation I've seen/read, so I'm excited. Then again, I've probably not seen much Gwen hate because I mostly read fic and haven't explored the fandom (which might change because, again, MORDRED). *slinks away*

See, I was kind of annoyed when Gwen first got to show her cleavage back in S2. I have no objections to cleavage but the fact that it just-so-happened to coincide with her becoming Arthur's love interest... yeah, that was icky. She's a love interest now! We can't have our love interest looking plain! Give her some cleavage! Gah. Plus the outfits she was wearing suddenly become completely implausible for a maidservant.

The most recent cleavage upgrade, however, does not bother me at all. Gwen is a queen now, she can wear whatever she likes, and that dress is awesome. :)

So basically people are complaining about what is kind of a legitimate issue with the show for all the wrong reasons.

What? They are complaining about her dresses? Do they not understand how class works? Merlin's a servent, he mucks out horse stalls, of course they aren't spending lots of money dressing him up pretty. Gwen's dresses were a lot plainer back when she was a maidservant.

sorry to say this but some slash fans are annoying as hell with their delusion and irrational hate for every female character that get in the way of their fanon ship (it's not the breasts OP it's the fact that she has a vagina). Get over it and read fanfictions. (and anyway Mer-Arthur still creeps the hella out of me because I can't get over the fact that Merlin was, originally, a very old man and a father figure for kid Arthur :|)

Not a shipper but I just find it weird how her wardrobe has evolved to be sexier and sexier as she gets the guy. In the first season, she basically wore a yellow sack. Romance=makeover. Odd.
