Meh, watch Naruto, you'll see plenty of this kind of stories.

Damn why I can't fall for this series?

Maybe OP has standards.

I agree tbh.

note to OP: Don't watch Naruto. If you want a show with well done sad/bittersweet moments, try Natsume Yuujinchou

It was, even with the unclear reasoning/indeterminate time period between Noatok's running away and the Equalist movement.

Same here, OP. This scene is the one scene that stuck with me more than anything else. I don't usually cry much, but this scene had me in tears. You can tell that Noatak could have stopped Tarrlok if he wanted, but he didn't. Because even if they died, they would die together, as brothers.

It kind of makes me think of Ed and Al from FMA, but with a grim twist to it.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-01 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
You can tell that Noatak could have stopped Tarrlok if he wanted, but he didn't.

Really? Cause I was under the impression that Noatak had no idea what Tarrlok was going to do, and he was all teary-eyed because was reclaiming an identity he had all but abandoned, and also had reunited with his brother.

I think the only reason Tarrlok could do what he did was because Noatak didn't know about it.

Damn that scene was depressing.

It was very anime. Which, well, that's not a description of anything at all, but I liked their story and ending. Last minute flashback exposition and all, it was more compelling and complete feeling than what was Korra's legend again?

It's crazy how much character development they got in 2 episodes compared to the main characters which are pretty bland ngl.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-01 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish that they'd given more build up to it from the start, but it was my favorite story in the finale too.

Personally! I would have liked to have been shown more about Amon/Noatak from the get-go, because I really like depersonalization/dissociation narratives and that's how I was reading his in the finale, so. :T

A tentative maybe third shipper over here. I'm not sure if I ship-ship it or bro-ship it, either way that scene gave me so many FEELINGS. Conflicted feelings AMG.

Yeah, because a show supposedly centered on a female Avatar needs plenty-o'-manpain, brotherly, fatherly -- the manliest of manly manpains.

I personally really loved Korra's complex, dramatic, non-rushed story and how downplayed the romantic aspects were for the female characters.

Oh, wait ...

Yeah, that was the most interesting part of the finale. Closely followed by Asami's confrontation with her father. And everything Iroh said and did.
Thinking about everything else from the finale just makes me so ANGRY.
laughingskeleton: (amon)

[personal profile] laughingskeleton 2012-07-01 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
They had more development in two episodes than the main characters had in the whole season.

Amon and Tarrlok's backstory should be switched imo, but I guess Bryke wanted to check off, "The Avatar versus prodigy bender" ticky box.

[personal profile] streetcake 2012-07-01 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I have mixed feelings on that. I think it would've been a great development if it didn't feel like it was shoved in at the last minute, and didn't undo everything that they built up Amon and the Equalist movement to be. It did make Tarrlok a million times more interesting(and tragic) for me though.

You cried?

Wow. I must be some kind of an unfeeling jerk because I saw that and went. "Huh. I like that twist." And moved onto something else.

It was one of the few parts of the episode that I found moving. Though I didn't cry.

I didn't cry but I was jumping in my seat screaming 'Holy crap was there just a murder-suicide on a kid's show?!'

And that was the only bit in the last five minutes that didn't have me hating the show: rushed romance, giving Korra back her powers thanks to the Avatar spirits waving their magic wands, completely undermining Lin's sacrifice by giving her back her bending, ugh so much to hate when I wanted so much to love!

(Anonymous) 2012-07-02 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was alright, but certainly nothing special. Then again I felt that way about the entire series.

It genuinely surprises me when people say that Korra is the example of what a great kid's cartoon should be.
