yeah, except a lot of "SJ" people aren't even trying to be activists, they're just talking about their lives. You never just went online and vented? Heck, that's what half of the people I know from school who I follow on tumblr do with their blogs: rant about their lives.

Also, I really hate this idea that words and the internet don't matter and are somehow not "real". There's nothing wrong with education via the internet and there's nothing wrong with using the internet to talk about politics instead of looking at funny pictures of cats.

No, but if you talk alot about politics and then don't go vote for the candidate you were pushing everybody to go vote for... you didn't do very much now, did you?

Exactly.

That's a really good metaphor. I'll steal that next time I'm having this argument.

idk, I'm too young to vote and politics and sociology are just fun discussion topics for me, anyway. Some of my friends like science, but they're not building nuclear reactors in their garages, they're just reading about it online and talking about it. I have friends on the debate team, are they wasting their time cause they're not chaining themselves to shit? I just find discussion really interesting and fun, and I often learn something. When I do get opportunities to make a real difference; voting with my wallet like this secret mentions, or real voting when I get old enough, I take them.
