Death threats are never a good idea anon, or warranted. While it might be unfortunate that your town was 'bad-mouthed', this kind of thing isn't entirely uncommon, and it's not the end of the world.

If you had really wanted to write a letter, you should have, but you should've done your best to tell the author about how awesome your town and the people in it are, and to be as polite as possible so they would actually take you seriously.

...I mean, geez, death threats isn't going to HELP your case.

I know now that death threats would be a horrible idea, and I would still like to write the author a letter (not a death threat) telling him about how much he's gotten wrong, how poorly he portrayed the people and the town (getting the layout of the place completely wrong), it seems like he just threw a dart at a map and didn't do any research. I don't see why he would write about it so horribly, though.

It was the 'I still sometimes wish I had' that gave people pause anon. After a while the anger should probably fade...at least a bit. And why do people do anything, honestly? He might've just been lazy and not done his research, and that def isn't cool so I can understand feeling frustrated, but yes, you should try letting some of that anger out in a positive way. Write him, but be nice about it.
