Honestly? I'm okay with it, if I buy that the couple has good chemistry and works. Because honest to goodness, there's enough breaking up and heartbreak in real life to compensate. I turn to fiction for comfort and inspiration, so it'd kind've bum me out after a while if everything was 100% realistic and things never ended ideally, even if it's a little hokey.

This. Add to that the fact that most fiction about teenagers is written for... teenagers. Who often tend to feel that their love ~will last forever~ whether or not those feelings are based on the fiction they consume. So fiction geared towards teenagers is generally going to portray teenage romance as epic and long lasting, because those are feelings that most teenagers will relate to.
