It can happen, but it's a lot harder than teen romance fantasies make it seem. Honestly most fiction focuses on the "chase" and not the reality of maintaining relationships.

It's kind of unfortunate because then you get people all caught up in the fact that they can't make a relationship last forever when the reality is most times, life doesn't work that way, and not without a lot of effort, either.
