If you had sent him death-threats, it would have only reinforced his/her interpretation of your town (not to mention, it makes you sound crazy - death threats? Seriously?) and have the exact opposite effect of what you're trying to achieve.

You describe your town as being kind and accepting, so why not exemplify that? Ask the author civilly if he/she would mind changing the name of the town in the fic to a fictional one because it incorrectly portrays the people there? (unclear if you meant fan fiction or a published work, so it may impossible to have him/her change the name)
