Я изучаю русский язык в университет(е?), does that count?

(I don't know how to say "does that count" in Russian :D)

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
does that count? = это считается?

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
By the way, I admire people why study Russian. Honestly. It means that we're worth the effort for you. :) And it actually means a lot.

I posted several secrets back in the LJ days nand I'm not the OP of this one. So there must be at least three of us. lol

However, I think there are rather many Russians on the F!S. Seriously.

Lol, I'm another one.
It's too bad there isn't a Russian version of F!S. Sometimes I want to post a secret about Russian media or fandom, but then I think about how pretty much nobody would get it.

Привет! :3

[personal profile] ex_mek82 2012-07-04 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
This is pretty much the exactly same for some of the local sports teams here. They play poorly one season, everyone in the city takes a collective dump on the team, says the coach(es) should be fired, they single out a couple players as the scapegoats, etc. They win, everyone treats them like they've been unconditionally supportive fans forever and they're all like gods.

That kind of hypocrisy is why I can't stand football season around here. Yeesh.

Bandwagoners.. a blight on every sport fandom. But particularly irritating when it comes to international tournaments. >:(

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
I say let people have fun with their sports even if it's just intermittent. Not everyone can make something like sports or television a top life priority.

I feel kind of the same way about The Rangers (the baseball team). No one gave a shit about them when they sucked, but once they started winning everyone had a little ranger's flag on their car and acted like they had always loved them.

This wouldn't even bother me if it weren't for the fact that now everyone actually wants to go see the games and THE TICKET PRICES HAVE BEEN RAISED, YOU MOTHERFUCKERS >:(

(Anonymous) 2012-07-04 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree that it sucks, but if it's any reassurance, that's not just a Russian thing. It seems to happen with all NTs because Euros and World Cups attract what we call "success fans" in Germany, people who are really enthusiastic and supportive while the team wins and as soon as the team loses these "fans" hate on the players in the worst ways. It's kind of disgusting.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
I was about to comment on the secret saying this,
and it disgusts me so much.

It's not fair towards the team or the coach.

While the team is winning everyone loves the German team, but once they lose, Germany in its entirety (with of course a few exceptions) wants the coaches head, and they stop watching the tournament entirely.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds like the way we Seattleites relate to the Mariners (our baseball team)...

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
It's the same here in Mexico, if it helps you feel better.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
That's how it is in America on the most part. Unless you're a hardcore USMNT fan who will love the team win or lose (yet still be able to admit to the team's faults; I get so annoyed with the fans who refuse to admit their team have any faults), on the most part Americans tend to be like, "LOL Why would we support the USMNT? We don't even like soccer!" And if news gets around that we lost, there will be lots of, "This is why soccer isn't a real sport! That's why [gridiron] football is better!" But if we win suddenly there are relentless chants of, "USA! USA!" everywhere I go, of course, until we are out of the World Cup, then it's back to, "We don't care."

BTW I actually like the Russian team. I think they have a lot of potential. Give them a few years and I think they can become strong contenders in international games.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
I think the bandwagon fans are kind of exciting. I like that suddenly my co-workers and family want to talk about a subject which I usually have to enjoy by myself. I also relish being in a like-minded group, and watching the USMNT or USWNT in a pub/bar is a great way to achieve that. I live in a very diverse area with many international students/workers, so in other situations like Euro 2012 you get mixes of loyalty plus American neutrals, and no one cheers quite so loudly.

This is something I find funny about Hockey fans in my province. All they do is complain and pretend they hate the team, players, etc. when they're losing-- but once they're winning, they find them absolutely flawless.

Eh, my friends never though the Leafs were flawless even when they were winning, but we never hated on them either.

44 seasons of Cup drought and counting...

I don't know if it helps, but we Italians were exactly the same this time around, with the added bonus of continuously switching between "Ugh, we're terrible, we'll be eliminate soon" and "WE ARE THE BEST!! BRACE YOURSELF SPAIN, HERE WE C0ME!!!"
(sorry for the all caps, but lowercase just doesn't do them justice)

I now exactly how you feel, OP.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
It's the same here in Finland. Whenever there's some polls before the match whioch ask "Will we win?", people always go like "Of course not. Those losers don't know how to play. We suck." but when they DO win, our country is suddenly the best evaaaaaar!

(Anonymous) 2012-07-05 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Possibly it's the same everywhere. I'm always happy when England get knocked out because then I can cheer for Italy with no guilt.

Awww, you cheered for the Netherlands? Awesome. They did pretty damn well in the World Cup, but failed spectacularly in the recent European cup. idk if you watched those matches too?

(Anonymous) 2012-07-12 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel your pain OP! I'm English and so have the pain of dealing with this exact situation every single tournament because we pretty much always qualify :/
Plus I support the German NT, which is never really received well as everyone here seems to think they are "great rivals" and because I'm a girl people think it's because of the OMG HAWT MEN and ugh no no no
