lol. I think it's a sign of me getting older that I was #Team Elinor too.

But I mean, I don't think Merida was a brat. The movie was about women coming to understand each other and find a common middle ground.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-10 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not surprised the person blindly defending stripping Watson of war experience and a medical license as somehow being good positive things would think that the point of view of forcing someone into an arranged marriage was the pov to root for.

You are an idiot. Shut up about things until you've passed the age of twenty five and stop telling WOMEN IN THE MILITARY how their pov aren't valid because oh noes they don't blindly like a badly genderswaped character that you are stanning because she has girl parts.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-10 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you even watch the film, or are you just looking for an excuse to be an asshole?

You caught me! I am in favor of forcing all women into arranged marriages! That's why I sympathized with Elinor! Not because I empathized with her frustration at trying to teach Merida things that Elinor knew would be useful in the future while Merida didn't listen.

And I hate women in the military! Also, I love all female characters only because they are women! That's why I support Joan Watson! Not because I support an attempt to give a woman a role that they have been traditionally excluded from! And certainly not because I think more visibility in media for women of color is a good thing!

How did you find me out?

(Anonymous) 2012-07-10 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
But Joan Watson isn't Watson anymore. It's just the name Watson slapped onto a woman. Stripping the character of military experience and her medical license takes away major parts of what has ALWAYS made Watson, Watson. There'd be a lot less people having issues if they'd a) kept Watson history the same or b) decided to just make it a new character.

I don't think that's actually true, possibly same anon? I don't feel like Sherlock really did much with Watson's military experience other than the pilot episode (and his psychosomatic limp was completely gone after that, of course).

Not to say that you don't have the objection to it for that reason, but most of the vitriol I've seen is based on the fact that Lucy Liu somehow removes the gay from Sherlock/Watson and oh god a woman, let alone a POC woman getting in the way of our queer baiting programming!

I'm waiting to see how the lack of military history plays out. It'd have been nice to see an example of a WOC solider on the television and I am curious as to why they felt to make the switch, but I'm not going to cast it out completely.

There's one place that's on your way!

Arranged marriage in Brave isn't the travesty against social mores that it would be in our western world. Rooting for Elinor does not equal rooting for forced marriage. It's acknowledging that she had good qualities that deserve admiration, including the ability to see the other side and adjust her position.

Also, grudge much?

Fight about your other fandom in a thread dedicated to it, if you must. Sheesh.

not until you stop being ageist and stop telling WOMEN IN GENERAL that their opinions are wrong because you say so.
wauwy: (so there)

[personal profile] wauwy 2012-07-10 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, so it's you the crazy vindictive anon is attacking, huh? I didn't even know.

YOU IN DANGER FAUXKAREN, YOU ARE GOING TO BE "ELEMENTARY" SCHOOLED UNTIL THE END OF TIME (see what I did there)

LOL. WHO WILL SAVE ME FROM THE ANONS?

WHOOOOO?

omg. Maybe Lucy Liu would come save me? Can that happen? I WANT THAT TO HAPPEN.
wauwy: (jcc)

[personal profile] wauwy 2012-07-10 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
You seem to be a little confused because that would be problematic. It implies that women are weak and have to be rescued AND perpetuates the stereotype that a "strong" woman can only be one who does traditionally masculine things such as "rescuing." It would fuck with your entire character.

The whole situation would be better if you were a dude and the dude who saved you was also a dude, tbh.

And there was homoerotic tension

I HATE YOU FOR THINGS YOU SAID YESTERDAY

Ah, yes, Ms. Aristocracy-Is-Good-And-Right-and-Anyone-Who-Doesn't-Fit-Is-A-Dangerous-Element. Seriously, you might want to start going anonymous because waaaaaaaay too many of your comments are hitting nerves in a lot of people, the fact that you're remembered by anyone being a pretty clear indication of this.

Or you could fuck off, which would be wonderful.

You're projecting an awful lot onto me.

And no thanks! I'm not a coward who hides behind anonymity!

YOU could fuck off if I really bother you that much.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-11 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Your opinions are really disgustingly misogynistic, you know that? I really hope you're a troll because otherwise, you're a horrible person.

Not hiding, just not interested in making an account for on a website I only use for one purpose.

I don't know where you are getting any of this. Sure I've disagreed with opinions fauxkaren has previously but I've never seen the kind of attitude you are describing. This feels grudgey and your choice to go anonymous seems like a good fit for you.
