When he stammers in fic that immediately throws me. He's called silvertongue for a frickin' reason!

Oh fuck. You've just written and posted mte. The prompt looks awesome (tour through all of the Nine Realms? Count me in!!), but then his initial line is delivered STAMMERING to show you how much he's changed, foh realz guise!!1! and I just... guh. My brain just banged itself on the inside of my skull as punishment for not heeding your advise. I really hate judging stuff from the first paragraphs alone, but this really bothers me. You CAN redeem Loki in fic without ripping his very essence from him. His entire character's based on his use of words; to deceive, to manipulate (to cast magic?) etc etc etc. Silvertongue, anyone? Liesmith? He's defined by other people's words or rather, some people's *cough cough Odin's cough cough* silence. Coherence is sort of his way of coaxing reality into what he wants; it's order used to cause chaos and/or to have something to hold on to when chaos gets out of hand. Language may very well be the little thread that still connects him to sanity. YOU DO NOT MAKE THIS GUY TRIP OVER HIS CAREFULLY CRAFTED SPEECH. RAGH.

I read one where Darcy becomes Loki's bff and succeeds where Thor fails(though he's adorable in his failure) and that's the closest I've ever gotten.

Might not be quite what you're looking for, but it hits some of the major qualifiers - someone recc'd this a couple months back and I absolutely love it. A slightly silly premise, but with very thoughtful characterization - by haicrescendo.
