Especially if it was about the omegas' place in society and they fought for their rights without changing their sexuality. I think in the real world there is a lot of prejudice against bottoms or sexually submissive people of any sort, and I always really like seeing fic that makes a character who bottoms or submits sexually a strong person. Especially when it's not the same tired "Oh, s/he submits in bed, so in real life s/he's a snippy ball-buster who bosses everyone around!" but a thoughtful, carefully created and well-rounded, and complex character.
If that's what you're thinking of writing or inspiring, I'd read the hell out of it.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-15 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)Some touched on what a "pack" type structure would mean when it came to a similar-to-modern-day society, and whether there'd be some kind of political or sociological fight between "pack" families and nuclear families.
I agree that a lot of the alpha/beta/omega dynamic fics are all about the porn, without any potential social critique or whatnot thrown in... and I'd love to see more that DO use that type of story to make a point. But I don't think that's a nonexistent thing, either.
That said, any actual alpha/beta/omega fic recs for this kind of thing would be awesomely welcome! I've read actually very few, but am interested to see different things that authors could do with it.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-15 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)Unfortunately, I've only ever seen one story like that and it was clear from the first chapter that it was an SJW clusterfuck. The author clearly had a problem with anyone who wasn't her exact brand of militant... I don't even know if that could be classified as feminism, but for the sake of argument I'm going to say militant feminism, because it was like reading something written by the ghost of Andrea Dworkin. Anyway, I managed about two chapters before I went "lol nope" and back-buttoned.
Done well, I would read the fuck out of a fic like this. But in the hands of someone with a specific political agenda... well, it probably won't be any good. Let's just leave it at that.

I feel like there are fics that deal with what is essentially multiple gender roles, but I have never actually found them. There are certainly metas.
People will eat your fic up though if you try it. Or at least I will.

My favorites for dealing with the social aspects (both XMFC.)

(Anonymous) 2012-07-16 12:56 am (UTC)(link)I think with kinks like this, they start out as smut and not much else, and then people start to play with the social concepts and implications in the fics. Start writing and posting, anon, it'll catch on.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-16 03:30 am (UTC)(link)And the female alpha is, while not a common focus because most a/b/o are in slash genres, fairly well represented. They are mentioned. Sometimes they are discriminated against they are different just like the omegas are. Often times there are various methods of explaining sex with one, but again there are various solutions to this. A/B/O is a kink and fancy solutions to a 'problem' is always popular in a kink world.
When the fan trope started in my fandom, at least two or three dealt with discrimination against male alphas because of their knots and how society viewed them as animal when they're not.
Maybe it is the fandom you're in that isn't looking at it closely?
But then, you say you don't like the trope to begin with, so it is likely not worth your time to continue digging into a kink that you admittedly dislike.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-16 04:06 am (UTC)(link)Also, if omega!men having assvaginas isn't improbable, why is alpha!women having big clits or even extra dicks (a trend that already exists in porn as 'futa') so improbable? Honestly, the lack of existence of even the thought of futa, in both the ABO haters and unfortunately the writers too, is more internally misogynistic than most things even in straight ABO porn. It's like fandom can't even imagine women having 'a man's role' in a fantasy world with fantasy anatomy, because vaginas are common and anyone can have them and any orifice can stand in for them, but DICKS! OMG the ~sacred dicks~. Cannot be replicated or stood in for. *sage nod*

(Anonymous) 2012-07-16 04:20 am (UTC)(link)It's about the AU!Gaang dealing with puberty and discovering what role they biologically fit into. It's rather fascinating to me and it's fun to guess what sort of role each character would have based on personality and environment.
Here's the link:

I think I find this concept fascinating because it completely skews our notions of gender which have always been defined socially by our reproductive roles.
