Ren and Stimpy and All That were awesome, hands down. Legends of the Hidden Temple was THE BEST game show Nick's ever had (THAT FUCKING MONKEY STATUE. I HATED THOSE CHILDREN.), Double Dare was corny but still fun to watch.

The Amanda Show and Hey Dude were pretty bad though. Amanda Show suffered from being completely unfunny (barring...maybe one sketch), and Hey Dude was just...ugh, too corny to watch. Too. Damn. Corny.

Also, The Amanda Show was way after all of those other shows except All That, and by the time The Amanda Show rolled around All That was barely even recognizable. Also, Amanda Show came out in October of '99, so I wouldn't even really classify that as a "90's show."

Also ALSO, people consider the 90s the "Holy Grail" of kid's TV for more than just Nickelodeon shows. You also had a whole bunch of awesome Disney shows, and the blocks of the Disney Afternoon and One Saturday Morning. Not to mention the stuff on Cartoon Network (which I didn't watch, but I'm sure some people could name favorites), AND the Kid's WB (Animaniacs, Freakazoid, Tiny Toon Adventures, Batman: TAS).

That don't mean some shit didn't suck. Blatant hypocrisy. "My generation is better than your generation" and all that bullshit.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-16 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, so? AFAIK nobody is saying "EVERYTHING MADE IN THE 90S WAS GREAT!" I was just pointing out that there are a lot of reasons why people consider the 90s a sort of "golden era" of kid's TV besides "some shows on Nickelodeon."

Anyways, there are plenty of objective reasons why people consider the 90s a Golden Era for kid's TV. Saying that it's all just nostalgia is like saying that the "Disney Renaissance" wasn't a thing because ~~~NOSTALLLGIAAA~~~. (Of course, the the Disney Renaissance also came about in part because of their excellent kid's programming. Which was, you know, part of the 90s. :)

But anyways, you had Nickelodeon finally hitting their stride with their own original programming, same with Cartoon Network. Kids were finally being seen as an television audience rather than just a way to sell toys (unless there were Pete & Pete action figures that I missed out on in which case DAMMIT). With the rise of cable TV it was really the first time that kid's television was an actual thing. You had entire channels totally devoted to kids, rather than just random blocks of time on network TV. Plus the fact that this was all sort of untamed territory meant that people could get away with pushing the boundaries and trying new things (hence why the hell Ren & Stimpy and Rocko's Modern Life even ever got on the air, while also explaining how the hell Pete & Pete happened).

I mean, you could argue about the actual quality of the programming (I'd still say that there were consistently higher quality shows in the 90s, but whatevs), but the biggest reason why people look on the 90s with fondness was because that was when children's TV really became "children's TV" as we know it today. The 90s were a total game changer. The 90s picked up the ball that started rolling in the 80s and just fucking ran with it. That's why it's a Golden Era.

WTF are you even saying whore.

Trying to think through the tequila, but I'm pretty sure you're a butthurt late 90s born baby who wants to believe the era you were born in is so much better than everyone else's.

Either way, tequila says you be wrong, because every era be full of bullshit like All That.

Awww you're so conscientious about "Nazi" and then you go use a word as an insult that denigrates sex workers (and which they are fucking legit pissed off about). Waaaaaay to go!

Bitch, I said whore, not prostitute. Whores be giving that shit up for free, prostitutes get paid. Everyone knows that.

Nazi =/= whore, on the scale of insults, you wannabe SJ jackass. Even I'm not that drunk.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-16 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
I'd like you to go up to a sex worker and explain your worldview politely, and try to avoid getting spat on. Terminology fail.

[personal profile] habilelapin 2012-07-16 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Terminology fail, my ass. Go to hell, bitch. Try talking to a real sex worker with your condescending shit.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-16 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
I doubt they would care tbh

(Anonymous) 2012-07-16 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Basically, there are very good objective reasons why people think of the 90s as a Golden Era for children's TV.

But I don't expect you to understand that sentences because clearly reading comprehension isn't for you.

Also, don't blame tequila for the fact that you're an idiot. That's just unfair to tequila.

Basically, there are very good objective reasons for why you think your era of television was so much better than everyone else's. That being, you're an idiot.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-16 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, no. Not "era of television." Era of children's television. Which, again, you would have understood if reading comprehension was in your wheelhouse.

And even then, I'm not saying that the quality of TV is objectively better (even though I, personally, believe that it had more shows of consistent quality, but that's not really the point). Just that the 90s completely changed the game for children's TV and it really was a Golden Era because no era has done for children's TV what the 90s did. Which was cause the institution of children's TV as it exists today to exist at all. And you would know this if you knew anything about children's television, instead of just screaming ~~~BUT NOSTAAALLLLGIAAAAA~~~~!!!!!

Because I wasn't actually a child in the nineties or anything like that, and don't realize that some shows were absolutely terrible, like the ones anon mentioned. Also, "wheelhouse", that word makes me giggle.

I wasn't saying "but nostalgia" or whatever the fuck you believe. I was saying "some shows be shit, and people need to stop putting them on a pedestal". Because they were. All generations have good tv and bad tv. Don't pretend like the nineties were special. They weren't. "If you knew anything about children's television". Fuck, bitch, I'm too drunk to get pizza like I'm craving, and I know you sound like a sixteen-year-old too young to be up this late on a Sunday.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-16 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and where did I say that every show in the 90s was a beautiful piece of magnificent art? I'm starting to get severely worried on those reading "skills" of yours. Are you sure you're not drinking, say, turpentine instead of tequila and were unable to tell those squiggly things on the labels apart (we call those "letters," btw).

[personal profile] habilelapin 2012-07-16 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Awww, you're such a condescending ass. Tell em some more about how I can't read English.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-16 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, I don't even need to tell anyone anything, since you've done such a good job showing off your reading "skills" (lets use the term very, very loosely, shall we?) in every one of your posts. All. By. Yourself!

So...I guess you get an A for effort? Yay, you! You participated! Doesn't that make you feel special?

Now go drown your sorrows in questionable tequila and pizza. You've earned it, you little go-getter!

[personal profile] habilelapin 2012-07-16 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
Could you make it anymore obvious you're sixteen, with nothing to do? Tell me, what did I do that makes you think you're so much more special than me? Did I misspell a word? Did I use some punctuation wrong?

So sorry, I'll try to live up to the standards of someone too scared to use their username next time I post.
