"Is the entire Avengers fandom based on fanon?"

YES.

Yeah, pretty much. We've had one movie, and how many things are we ignoring/handwaving/replacing with fanon?

(SPOILERS)

1. Coulson's death
2. Bruce going to the airport
3. Loki actually being punished
4. Tony falling out of space
5. Natasha's motives
6. Clint's mental trauma
7. Thor going back home
8. Every canon romantic relationship ever

It's kind of what this fandom does, and I'm loving it, to be honest. :)

Wait, where are you getting that Bruce is going to the airport? Do they say that?

SA I just re-watched that scene at the end where they all drive off. Not seeing where you get airport.

There was an interview during Comicon where they told us that Tony gave Bruce a lift to the Port Authority, which, apparently is not an airport but a bus station. So yeah. But we learned that literally last week so before, it could've been anything.

Ah. I was away from the internet during comic con, so that explains how I missed that! But yeah, I wouldn't exactly call an interview that just happened on the same level as canonical things from the movie that are ignored...

(Though having literally just been in the Port Authority this weekend, I now want fic where Bruce gets frustrated by how god damned terrible in every way that place is.)

As a Tony/Bruce shipper partial to the idea of Bruce moving in post-Avengers, my new (cracky) head!canon is that, after spending an hour trying to figure out what the fuck gate he's supposed to go to, Bruce realizes the Port Authority is just too much for even the always-angry version of himself to handle, gives up, and takes a cab back to Stark Tower before he Hulks out and tears the building down on principle.

Done and done.

tbh, I never thought they were heading straight to Avengers/Stark tower — Bruce does have a life to put together if he wants to live in NYC after being in hiding so long and probably has other shit to take care of (I'm assuming he needs to follow up on his patients and he doesn't have any credit cards or documentation and Betty would be flipping her lid over seeing him on TV and he's not gonna go from "me in an enclosed space? are you kidding?" straight to "I wanna live on the top floor of a tower!" without some adjustment, even if he did help save the world in between. Not to mention that no matter how much he and Tony liked each other, they have after all only known each other for a few days.

I just thought "yay they're going to totally be great friends now and Tony will totally convince Bruce into taking that job at some point!" which, yeah, doesn't require becoming instant tower bros. I think Tony would be all for it, but Bruce would probably have reservations....unless of course he does what you said and gets so fed up at the bus station that he just goes "fuck it" and parks himself on Tony's doorstep until he finds a non-rage-inducing way to get places. :D

How is Tony falling out of space ignored/handwaved/replaced? And what do you mean by Natasha's motives? I've seen all the others, but those two stumped me.

Ngl, I kind of love how a parts of canon can be blithely ignored in fics without any explanation and no one bats an eyelash.

Ok, of the things you mention :

1.- It's pretty common in a lot of fandoms to handwave or change canon deaths. Also, there's a lot of fics where he stays dead.
2.- Until last week, we didn't know they weren't going back to Stark Tower.
3.- We don't see the punishment in the movie, so ok. I give you this one.
4.- When it's handwaved? It's practically the starting point of many Bruce/Tony fics.
5.- Same as 4 without the Bruce/Tony.
6.- The movie handwaves the mental trauma very well, so.. you're saying it is bad that fanon adds it?
7.- Most fics I've read have him going home, and then returning, which since we're going to have an Avenger 2 movie, is pretty much a given.
8.- Really? And that's different from other fandoms how? (Not to mention that you still can find a ton of Pepper/Tony, Jane/Thor, Betty/Bruce and so on)

2. It's a bus station, not an airport. Nothing in the movie indicates such until an interview at Comic-Con a few days ago.
3. I wish. Have you seen all the idiotic fanfics with Loki being raped for his punishment?

7. It depends? Thor will show up at some point again in the next Avengers movie. Let's not mention that Tony redesigned his Tower for every Avenger.

I haven't seen this screenshot but I've heard it's very vague and blurry. Do you have it? Is there any proof it's actually him? Because I have trouble believing they'd put that in.

IA, but to be fair I think a big reason Clint's so popular in fandom is because his movieverse personality and history is very blank right now, yet what little we did get from was extremely likable and endearing due to Jeremy Renner's awesomesauce ~~and ass and arms~~. That means writers can experiment with his character a lot without people descending on their heads calling "OOC!"

All of a sudden everyone's talking about Renner. Am I dreaming?

God DAMN it that is not Coulson. I have seen this movie six times in theaters and not on a crappy cam and the man had a mustache and a ton more hair.

Oh so like, Coulson can't grow a mustache or a ton more hair. OPEN YOUR EYES AND SEE THE TRUTH THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO KNOW WHICH IS WHY THEY PUT IT IN! Or something. I'm not fluent in conspiracy!fangirl yet.
