But, your secret comes across as very blame-y. I get that some people are overly negative and that trolling can get out of hand, but the fact is, some people like to analyze and criticize things. And that's a good thing. If it makes people pay attention to things like whether or not their stories perpetuate misogyny, then it means there will be less misogyny in stories. I really am sorry about your anxiety but you can't expect people to be unconditionally supportive of everyone else all the time.

HOWEVER. Now you're going beyond a fear of being dogpiled by SJ warriors, and coming across as a jerk, implying people who see misogyny in media are seeing things that aren't really there and calling them halfwits. >.> And also implying that they all need to keep their opinions to themselves just so you can go on your merry way and not have to think about issues. And that's not cool.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-16 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)What I have an issue with is when people start going on about things that I cannot see no matter how hard I stand on my head and squint and when asking for clairification I get yelled at as a misogynist or whatever. I write 95% slash PWP, and I've been called misogynist for that. Uh. Sure. OK, whatever. I don't see how I can be misogynist when most of the time I don't even mention the female characters, because they have no place in that particular story. In my gen fics I write about them and have never had complaints. It's only when I write slash I get that. Which is stupid, and frankly, the people making those complaints are halfwits. And that's me putting it politely.

Honestly, I hate trolls like those. Please keep writing slash and ignore them, because you aren't doing anything wrong.

If you put women into your story and bad things happen to them, then it's because you're a woman-hating misogynist.
If you put women into your story and only good things happen to them, it's because you think women are inherently weak, can't deal with challenges, and need a man to save them, and it's because you're a woman-hating misogynist.
If you write a female character who is strong, overcomes obstacles, and does it without the help of a man, then you are perpetuating negative stereotypes that women can only do things well if they take on masculine traits, which makes you a woman-hating misogynist.
You can't win. There's NOTHING you can do it avoid this.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-16 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)See, if you are writing stories where people are regularly claiming misogyny, chances are you're including some misogynistic or sexist characterizations or tropes even if you don't realize it.
