I would more say Jesse Williams doesn't fit because he's too old (he's 30, Finnick is in his early 20s).

I kind of hate how everyone just goes right to "Finnick should be black!" without considering that he could maybe be Hispanic. And that would be awesome. But nobody wants Hispanic Finnick, apparently. (Or Hispanic anybody. Never seen anyone argue for a Hispanic person in THG. Ever.)

I'd love a hispanic Finnick. As I said, I figured D4 was near Mexico. (I also wanted a hispanic Johanna, but I guess that's too late now.)

Jesse isn't too old, though. Finnick was a few years older than Katniss, and Jennifer already looks 23/24ish, so getting a 30 year old to play Finnick wouldn't be a problem. Also, Jenna Malone (playing Johanna) is 27 y.o. I'm really, really rooting for Jesse, partly because I think he does fit the role (and I find him incredibly sexy), but also because he seems to actually have a tiny chance... he's aware of the role, there's a big fan following for him as Finnick now, and he's probably the most popular non-white fan-cast for Finnick.

I wish for Hispanic Finnick. Or like. SOMEONE. But you're the first person I've honestly heard anywhere even really care enough to mention the possibility of a Hispanic character in THG. :(

Ehh. tbh I don't find Jesse Williams attractive at all (like.. not even a tiny bit), so I'm turned off from him on many levels. (I can think of several POC guys I'd love for the role a LOT more than Jesse Williams.) I also don't really think Jennifer looks 23/24 in the movies, and was hoping Finnick would be cast closer to the book in being that age, not like, 30. (Johanna is, iirc, supposed to be older than Finnick, so I don't really have an issue there?)

I heard earlier today that Sam Claflin has been cast as Finnick. tbh I'm not upset about that -- I'm more upset that they're allegedly casting a pair of white people to play Beetee and Wirress, who were pretty much outright stated to be Asian.

For what it's worth, on my first read-through I thought Rue was supposed to be Hispanic.

iirc there was a mention of their skin tone or something in the book that made me very sure they were Asian or at least very much not white. I remember because my SO and I were miffed that they were putting them in the "Asian people are good at technology" stereotype mold. I'd have to reread it to find quotes though.

I may be wrong, but they were described as "ashen faced" or something like that, with dark hair. I can see why you'd have thought Asian.

Actually, a reddish-haired, green-eyed hispanic Finnick would be freaking awesome and probably induce head-explody in some people who cannot grasp that hispanic/latino ethnicity covers a huuuuuuuuuuuuge phenotypical spectrum.

Ugh, srsly. It's really annoying because it's like.. in discussions like this, I don't really want to bring it up because I think someone will get angry at me, but at the same time I kind of wish people would remember that there are POCs out there who aren't black? :\ cos Hollywood thinks that, and then it also comes up here a lot, too. Ugh. :(

Heeeey! I don't care for the movie you all are discussing, but how could anyone not want Hispanic people on the television? They are so... so... alive! And as a sports fan I must say that most of my fave athletes are Hispanic. I'd say, let there be more Hispanic people everywhere! :)

I could totally see a hispanic Finnick. But you raise a good point, in that often the discussion of race seems to fall into black vs white, when there are so many more groups out there.

Yeah.. it's really, idk, marginalizing or weirdly othering I guess, idk what the word I want is.. to see the discussion go so clearly black vs white and be off to the side all "but.. but I'm neither of those things?" :(

Yeah, well, Katniss and Peeta are supposed to be 16 and 17, and their actors are like, halfway through their 20s, so.. I feel like they don't care very much about age.
