Re: Mass Effect

i love games but mass effect was not my cup of tea. i didn't like the mechanics/controls and i thought the storyline was really lacking. it's considered an ~innovative game but i'm not a fan of bioware games in general.

i think sticking to the end of a game that starts out choppy for you is kind of a hit and miss thing, and largely depends on whether or not it has qualities that make/break a game for you. for instance storyline and character development are important to me just as much as game mechanics are, so i can overlook frustrating mechanics that take a few days to get used to if the story is good. if you like sci-fi storylines (the game is more or less entirely about saving the human race/galaxy from these robot pieces of shit) then it may be worth it. mass effect gets better after awhile imo, even if not enough to keep me interested personally.

like someone else said, mass effect can be a pretty overwhelming game for someone who is used to nintendo games, because it's a lot different than anything nintendo has on the market. a lot of western game companies have this annoying habit of making things really complicated in order to be ~showy and yet a lot of times this makes it difficult to learn how to play their games, especially with bad in-game tutorials. there are worse games than mass effect about this (like fucking borderlands, jesus) but anyway tl;dr it's not just you lol mass effect is objectively pretty complex and not 100% in a good way.

if you're looking for recommendations, i do highly suggest portal 1 and 2, theyre super good, relatively simple and are surprisingly deep (but only if you want them to be). left 4 dead is another good valve game but it's pretty bloody so if you arent into that then nvm.

taking this section to bitch about borderlands again because that game is so irredeemably shitty and yet i still play it on a semi regular basis despite hating pretty much everything about it (except the claptraps obv but i love robots so big surprise)

I'm definitely considering the Portal series :D

Aren't those a little more puzzle-oriented too?
