fffft, never bothered me, but I know kids with odd names are really common.

My mom almost named me Jazz lol. Thor and Loki are at least names.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-22 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, as long as the name doesn't have a really awful meaning or association, I'd rather see a weird name than a random word. And I have seen some really stupid words used as names, since a lot of parents seem to pick names solely on sound and not even consider the meaning. Hence, kids named Caprice, Vanity, Cadence, Sully, Talon and other stupidity.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-22 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Well I'd certainly take Jazz over those names. My sister wants to name her kid Seven and it's just so...bleghslkf. I understand wanting to name your kid something unique but whoa. Think about what you're doing.

I think some celebrity named their kid Seven. So it's not even unique.

Maybe annoy your sister by calling the kid "Six" and "Eight" and a bunch of other number until it's born?

(Anonymous) 2012-07-22 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I did not know that. I'd tease her about it being un-unique, but then she might name it something even odder.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-22 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, Erykah Badu and Andre 3000's kid's name is Seven.

Pfft! "How's little five-hundred-thirty-eight-and-a-half today?" I would totally do this.

My parents specifically picked short, common, inoffensive names for us. My brother (Evan) did go through a bit of a patch with teasing, but Mom swears off any responsibility for Pikachu and it's friends, like Eevee.

If I'd been a boy, the plan until month 8 was Luke Yohannes. Then Mom watched one of the Star Wars films while waiting for a checkup and told Dad I wasn't going to be a 'Luke Hans'.

What, like the 999 character?

(Anonymous) 2012-07-22 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
THE worst namer of children (to me) is this fucking moron right here. (http://www.news.com.au/national/move-over-epponnee-rae-diammond-sparckles-in-town/story-e6frfkw0-1225820291079)

(Anonymous) 2012-07-22 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Psh, that's nothing.

There was an article in Psychology Today talking about unique names and their affect on children and the writer had named her kids, E and Yo.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-22 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I just feel bad for the kids. This girl is going to grow up with more than one problem:

1. Her name will fit on exactly NO government forms/cards/etc.
2. With the intentional misspellings of diamond and sparkle, there's the chance she'll think it okay to 'invent' spellings.
3. The obvious Speshul Snowflayke syndrome her mother is pretty much dumping on all eleven kids from birth.

Diammond? That's not that bad. It's just long, but I know a couple people who have equally long names and it's not really a problem for them... they just go by their first name.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-23 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Diamond would not be a bad name. Purposely misspelled "DiamMond" is terrible, however, especially with frickin "Sparckles" attached.

Maybe it's the area you grow up in? 'Cause where I'm from, Diammond wouldn't stand out at all. I've met a guy named Yohawnn (pronounced "Johan"), a girl named Jazzime (pronounced Jasmine), and a guy named Souh (pronounced "sigh.") Diammond isn't my favorite name in the world and I don't really see the point of changing the spelling, but it doesn't stick out as terribly bad.

And I'd agree that Sparckle is pretty bad, but it's a middle name isn't it? She'll pretty much never ever have to use it, so when it comes to middle names I don't see why parents shouldn't be as kre8yvve as they want.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-24 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
it could have been worse

like, what if it was mispelled and you ended up with jizz
