I didn't love the movie - I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it the way I'd loved Raiders and Ark. But I second the above commenter, the wedding was one of my favourite parts.

I just, and this is only my opinion, feel like introducing aliens to the Indiana Jones mythos fell kind of flat. I would have preferred them sticking to more supernatural stuff. The whole project was kind of indulgent, which is fine really, especially with such a long-established and well-loved franchise, but it felt like the aliens were more about Lucas and Spielberg indulging themselves and their own personal preferences than thinking about what fit with the franchise. But then, I've only seen the movies, I haven't read any of the wider universe and I haven't seen the young Indy series in years, so for all I know, aliens could have been featured before.

I think going into the film with little-to-no expectations was actually beneficial to you, OP. Having so many people tell you it was crap, you didn't expect it to be good, so it was able to pleasantly surprise you. For a lot of people, they'd been waiting years and were built up on hype, and the movie failed to live up to that for them. When that happens, it can be hard not to take it personally - a franchise you love has let you down, and that's often why it goes from just thinking a film is mediocre to actively bashing it. Same thing happened with the Star Wars prequels, after all.

I have to say, though, implying everyone who doesn't like the film is only jealous because Indy got married seems kind of daft. While I admit there are vocally immature people in all fandoms, that doesn't mean everyone with a negative opinion or criticism is just acting out of something as petty as jealousy towards a fictional character. Also, for the sake of disclosure, having a negative opinion or criticism doesn't automatically make anyone a "hater".
