Anyone else having drought problems?

[personal profile] tasogare_n_hime 2012-07-29 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
We haven't had rain in nearly all summer. The grass is dead, the trees are losing leaves, and we're starting to worry about our well water now. The worst part is areas around us are getting rain, but fore some reason it all dies out as it gets to us only to build back up again once it has passed us. We are in a tiny wasteland of dryness, this happens nearly every summer but it's ridiculously bad this year.

Where are you? I'm in Central Texas and it was realllly bad last year. This year we got a few weeks of rain and that helped I think, also I've noticed it's more humid in general than it has been

We got the drought earlier than other parts of the country so it's upsetting to hear other people getting hit by it now, I was hoping it wouldn't spread :(

Southern Illinois. Like I said areas around us are getting some rain at least, but we are in this little pocket that only gets a bit of sprinkles if anything at all. I'm really relived we don't have to worry about cattle this year. We sold them all last year which wasn't nearly as bad, I can't imagine what other people around here are going through to keep them feed and watered, especially with the heat we've been having.

That sucks.
I'm lucky in that I don't have to worry about livestock like a lot of people around me. It's terrible for the poor animals having to endure this heat. :(

lol Oh hey, I'm in southern Wisconsin. We haven't been getting much rain either :( The grass is plain yellow, and the leaves are starting to turn, too. It sucks. Especially when a storm starts and you hear thunder...and then nothing happens! Probably sucked towards lake Michigan >__>

I can relate. Indiana's weather has been terrible this summer.

"Oh look! Rain! HEADING RIGHT TOWARDS US!"
*rain fizzles out while passing over us - several droplets fall*
"FUCK."
*rain builds back up and drenches other areas*
"FUCK."

Repeat all summer long.

My god, you must be in Indianapolis with us. Or Carmel, maybe. LOL

Actually another area, but I guess I don't feel so alone in my pain. This summer has been the worst. :/

I do believe it's record droughts?? or second longest drought season Indiana has seen while last year was record rain fall. Imagine that.

We've had the opposite here. It's been rainy and gloomy and cold nearly all Summer. We don't get that many sunny months so this really sucks. If you're in the US I've noticed a lot of the country is having dry hotter than usual weather. Except for where I am.

Central Missouri. Over 100 counties in the state have been declared a disaster area due to drought. Crops are not growing and there will be a huge dearth of winter fodder for cows and etc. Gonna be a crappy and expensive winter for a lot of people.

A guy at the grocery told me some agra people came to test his fields before he harvested his hay, because there's some kind of drought-induced rot going on that makes the hay toxic and you can't feed it. He lucked out and his hay was okay, but a lot of his neighbors will have no hay/fodder for their horses and cows this winter without buying, and they can't *afford* to buy.

Uhg, I know how that feels, one of the reasons we sold our cattle was not having enough to feed them in the winter, and not being able to afford buying anything. The way things were last year we had trouble keeping them fed in the summer too, and this year even worse.

The guy said 'if my hay hadn't been any good, i'd have had to shoot my horses'. I hope was just exaggerating but...yeah. So not good.

Central Iowa here. Only the southernmost tier of counties are in the disaster zone, but it's plenty bad enough everywhere else. It rained most of yesterday in my area, but we barely got an inch of precipitation--we need a lot more to make up the groundwater deficit. It hasn't been this hot and dry since 1988, when they say you could hear the corn plants dying.

Wyoming here. We've been in a drought so long that almost any rain is cause for flash flood warnings, and not a few of them were totally justified. Flooding basements with less than an inch of water: my life.

Colorado here. We've had a pretty dry summer on top of a very light snow winter. Things have definitely improved a bit but the water level of the rivers are really, really low. Plus fires and stuff.

It's pretty terrible for my area. I think over the past three months, we might have had almost 2" of rain, but that's it.

It sucks, because this is a huge dairy farming area, so no hay has grown, the corn is short and straggly so there's going to be a HUGE food shortage for the animals this fall.

I suspect we're going to have a lot of farmers going out of business. I just hope my parents can stay up as farmers. :(

Yeah pretty much. I'm in St. Louis and it rained this morning finally. I'm glad because it was getting ridiculous. All the grass here is dead. I know a lot of people last week were having to truck water into their wells because they dried out. It's been miserable. We've pretty much been in the hundreds all month long with a couple "breaks" in the 90s. Today was one of the coolest days, but because of the bit of rain it was really humid. I'm just sad it didn't rain all day like they predicted. The rain was done by about 11 am.

Nope. I live in freaky Rain Country, North of France, where the skies are grey and the pastures green. It's been Spring-like almost all Summer, with an occasional dash of "what, is it Autumn already?"

Southern Wisconsin has been crispy-fried for at least a month, although some places have gotten some rain recently. The northern part of the state has been getting plenty of rain, though. They actually had flooding problems up around Duluth!
