Here's another day of two particular species getting featured that I haven't had the chance to before! Everything's a bug and most of them have wings on, but I'd hope that you might find at least a few of them cute. I'll be showing them at diffferent stages, too, since the baby ones look very different from adults.

That's right, today we take a look at butterflies and moths!

This elegant spider belongs to the family Deinopidae. They're net casting spiders! Like many other spiders do, ones in this family use their nets as ways to trap prey. Unlike many other spiders, they don't just weave their webs and set it up; they weave smaller webs of two different types of fibers then use those as nets to catch prey. Here's a video of one of those in action, narrated by the esteemed Sir David Attenborough, and here are two more pictures of it, to get a better look at a very odd creature.

But seriously, Gilgamesh/Enkidu is soooooo lame. Gilgamesh/Ishtar FTW. She was just a poor misunderstood woobie dontchasee? She only tried to commit mass murder because Gilgamesh was so mean and didn't love her! And she didn't actually go through with her massive zombie army plan either! She's so sweet for that!

I would give anything for there to be an actual fandom for The Epic of Gilgamesh.

I kind of want there to be a cheesy, historically inaccurate, low budget, 90s-esque TV series where Gilgamesh and Enkidu go on adventures.

So yes, I've given in to peer pressure and watched this and pretty much love it and I ship everyone with everyone and blah blah blah.

As usual when arriving at a new fandom that has been going for a while, the amount of fic to get through is daunting, so give me recs, dear anons.

Anything goes for pairings, genre or rating. Just gimme!

swing_set13 seems to be the popular go-to for AU fic. They have tons of oneshots, and wips gdi. I'm still crossing my fingers for the Forest Ranger Stiles au to be updated next (they take requests iirc)

Knowing What You Want is a ridiculous Sterek oneshot where the mechanic from Season 2 is ALIIIIVE, and exists solely to make Derek jello in the beginning. I get the feeling the author probably doesn't like Erica much though, so she's kind of a bit nasty or extra aggressive here (it's only a bit part though). Also, porn end iirc.

Lonely Little Love Dog is a Scott and Stiles genderswap! Of the "magical flowers/wizards did it" variety. And it's fluffy porn! First chapter is established Stiles/Derek, and the recent second chapter is Scott/Allison. So you have genswap het and genswap femmeslash in one beautiful package woohoo ♥

Your Own Personal Jarvis is an AU where the Stilinskis have been butlers for the Hales for ages. It's weird and cartoonish. And also a WIP, so watch out for that in case you don't like reading wips, yo.

Shattered Into Pieces is a post ep2x03 fic. Super gen and all about them angsty hurt feeling. I liked it because it was bittersweet and how everyone gets a POV. I suppose you can say it's got overtones of Derek/Stiles preslash toward the end too. But you can still pretend it's gen if you're sick of Sterek by now haha ♥

ah cripes I want to rec more, but my RIL list needs massive organizing to do so, and besides I'd be here all day. :(
May as well obligatory rec Alpha Spikes too. Everyone seems to have read that, so why not. It's got Alpha/Beta/Omega in it, so there's that warning there.

Anyone else having drought problems?

We haven't had rain in nearly all summer. The grass is dead, the trees are losing leaves, and we're starting to worry about our well water now. The worst part is areas around us are getting rain, but fore some reason it all dies out as it gets to us only to build back up again once it has passed us. We are in a tiny wasteland of dryness, this happens nearly every summer but it's ridiculously bad this year.

Where are you? I'm in Central Texas and it was realllly bad last year. This year we got a few weeks of rain and that helped I think, also I've noticed it's more humid in general than it has been

We got the drought earlier than other parts of the country so it's upsetting to hear other people getting hit by it now, I was hoping it wouldn't spread :(

I can relate. Indiana's weather has been terrible this summer.

We've had the opposite here. It's been rainy and gloomy and cold nearly all Summer. We don't get that many sunny months so this really sucks. If you're in the US I've noticed a lot of the country is having dry hotter than usual weather. Except for where I am.

Central Missouri. Over 100 counties in the state have been declared a disaster area due to drought. Crops are not growing and there will be a huge dearth of winter fodder for cows and etc. Gonna be a crappy and expensive winter for a lot of people.

A guy at the grocery told me some agra people came to test his fields before he harvested his hay, because there's some kind of drought-induced rot going on that makes the hay toxic and you can't feed it. He lucked out and his hay was okay, but a lot of his neighbors will have no hay/fodder for their horses and cows this winter without buying, and they can't *afford* to buy.

Wyoming here. We've been in a drought so long that almost any rain is cause for flash flood warnings, and not a few of them were totally justified. Flooding basements with less than an inch of water: my life.

...you know, the really irritating trope (that I'm sure everyone has seen before) where the entire cast dogpiles on a character for some reason and OOC-ly acts like a bunch of hypocritical dickwads to him or her/insults the character really nastily/assumes the character did something terrible with barely any evidence/treats the character like shit for some trivial reason/turn on the character and side against him or her even though they'd always give the character the benefit of the doubt in canon?

Like, um...those fics where the Scoobies are randomly sadistic and cruel to Buffy so that she can run weeping into the arms of Spike, who then chews everyone else out by telling them things they already know? Or the Avengers are all ungrateful dickholes to Tony and sincerely believe he's a shallow asshole even though pretty much no one thinks that in canon? Or Harry gets accused of a crime and everyone, even Sirius, who was falsely accused of a crime himself, immediately assume he's guilty with no evidence and don't even act betrayed or bewildered about it but instead gleefully go I KNEW IT and gloat when he gets chucked in Azkaban?

I swear to god, if I see this damn trope one more time...I like seeing my favorite characters angst and I like dramatic misunderstandings, but when I start going "why the fuck does he even give a shit what these assholes think?" my guilty pleasure officially gives out.

Sex Story: Fifty Shades of Grey; anyone else see it?

I was quite impressed by its even-handedness. The talking heads seemed to be happy that people were being more open about sex and trying new things, but loled at the actual writing and picked up on the central relationship being far less than ideal and unlike real BDSM relationships. The stats on sex toy purchasing increases were fascinating too, Ann Summers must be the only business making a profit these days!
