Er...does anyone know/remember? I'm very curious about these kinds of things...

I imagined this question read out in a gameshow host's voice.

And now I'm imagining a game show for fandom, with questions like:
"In which fandom did mpreg originate?"
"Which fanbase refer to themselves as 'Whovians'?"
etc.

LOL. I would be all over a fandom gameshow. I bet it would be awesome.

I would be all over ANY sort of fandom show. . .there are reality shows for EVERYTHING, so I really hope we get some sort of fandom something soon. . .

Oh god a fandom reality show...you just know they'd pick like the wakyiest out of all the fandom fen. I don't know if I'd be horrified or compelled to watch. Probably both.

Oh, both, I would definitely be in the both category. Agh that would be so lovely I WANT IT IN MY EYEBALLS.

I want to say Buffy for some reason, although I feel like that's definitely wrong, and it's most likely way older than that. The person who said Star Trek is probably right.

My guess is Dragonball Z, but that's only because it was the first fandom I saw it in, and I was basically there for the inception of its popularity within that fandom.

However, the first anon could very well be right with it being Star Trek fandom, and it may be one of those ideas that basically 'evolved' independently in multiple fandoms without any of the individuals involved being aware of the other fics.

It occurs in lots of ancient mythology, from Zeus to Loki and so on, so maybe it's just always been around?

I was gonna say this, the idea of male pregnancy is older than dirt - unless OP is looking for the origin of the term 'mpreg' in which case quite likely Star Trek. Maybe?

Ancient Egyptian myth. It's self-cest - Atum manages to impregnate himself by masturbating and swallowing the sperm, and delivers the kids, Shu and Tefnut, by coughing one up and vomiting the other.

More typical mpreg happens in both Greek and Norse myth, and probably in several others as well. So the meme's been around for a while.

There's a myth in Inuit (I think?) mythology as well. The first humans are both males, they mate, one gets pregnant, and then has to be turned into the first female to give birth.
I heard there was something in the Epic of Gilgamesh too but I don't know the details.
