The Arkh is at least terrestrial, don't act like supernatural God power and extraterrestrial paranormal shit is the same thing

Oh yeah I forgot it's cool to hate on Jewish mythology and mysticism

I'm not hating on Jewis mythology. I'm sorry if it came off like that.

I'm just saying that's a fantasy movie in which things that don't exist in reality (like the Ark or aliens) are true. The whole mythology of Hinduism, Judaism and Christianity are true in this world. Is it that hard to accept that in the movies aliens are real, too?

Believing in God is like believing in aliens?

No.

Believing that the Ark exist and will melt your face when you open is, is like believing in aliens.

Way to not get the point, which was to illustrate that the alien archeologists are rejected out of hand because they are NOT "Judeo-Christian God" interference.

That is not meant to be hating on the Judeo-Christian Mythos, that is meant to illustrate that some people are apparently threatened by something OTHER than Judeo-Christian God indirectly interfering with "Bad Guys" in an Indiana Jones film.

And I'm saying there's a big difference between the two and to say that someone should obviously be okay with aliens because they're okay with the Arkh having otherworldly powers is pretty insulting.

Re: I don't get the alien hate

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure I'm seeing your full point here.

To accept that the Arkh could have otherworldly powers OR to accept the possibility of aliens would both require suspension of disbelief on the part of the viewer (which required the greater amount would of course depend on the viewer). I don't quite get how the two are fundamentally that different.

Contextually is another matter, of course, because saying that aliens were responsible for something that an ancient civilization was supposed to have accomplished is problematic. With THAT, I can definitely see why people would feel insulted.

I mean, if you can't see the difference between a religious object having supernatural power and aliens existing then I don't know how I can explain it to you, but the supernatural and the paranormal are not the same thing. So it's perfectly understandable for people to suspend belief to accept one and not the other.

That's the same point somebody made. If you're trying to argue that the problem in this case would the breaking of a established genre, yes I can see and understand this point.

All I wanted to say that for some people the fact that those religious object really have supernatural powers is just as unbelievable as the alien thing.

Hmm... okay, I think I see what you're saying now, though I still disagree about whether the supernatural and paranormal are really that different. In my opinion, they're simply two sides of the same coin - phenomena which occur that are beyond the normal - with the only major difference being that paranormal phenomena can be scientifically tested and reproduced whereas the supernatural cannot.

Did you miss the second movie? Not exactly Judeo-Christian.

I hate Judeo-christian references in movies like I am Legend. Hate them, because not only I don't believe, but it's taking itself so seriously that it looks like everybody should really believe it (and also, the initial story didn't have them and did perfectly fine without).

I don't have a problem with it in Indiana Jones because 1) it's treated as magic 2) it's for fun 3) it doesn't exclude other religions to work, too. It works within the IJ universe as it's described.
Aliens might have worked, if it was the only improbable thing in it.

My main issue with IJ4 is that it kept piling up unbelievable, badly CGI-created and unnecessary action scenes, without anything worth being called a screenplay...
Like 90% of the other actions movies produced at the same time, and without the humor or right balance of elements there were in the franchise before. And I have an issue with those movies too, except that after I realized that even Peter Jackson doesn't bother to have a scenario to jack off to his CGI-filled action scenes, I simply avoid them in general.

I'll tell you what : The Mummy was a better 4th Indiana Jones movie than Indiana Jones 4.

So really, I find it insulting that you narrow down the problem of Indiana Jones 4 to "some people can't take something else than Judeo-Christian God in it".

It's not but the director is Jewish and Jewish people came up with it, it's not their fault that another religion spun off of Judaism ok

Also way to miss my point and try to derail
